Donovan McNabb trade to Vikings 'done'

At various points on Tuesday and Wednesday, Donovan McNabb was as good as gone from Washington, borne out into the great midwest to mentor Christian Ponder with the Vikings, as first reported by CBSSports.com's own Mike Freeman.

But there was a little matter of McNabb agreeing to changing up his contract, since Minnesota obviously wasn't going to give him eight figures to do so.

That issue appears to have been cleared though, and the McNabb-to-Minny deal is "now official."

That's according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, who reported Wednesday that the deal is "done" and will be announced on Thursday.

A league source has confirmed the report to Freeman as well.

There haven't been precise details of the trade released yet, but it stands to reason that, as we previously noted, the Redskins will still receive a pair of sixth-round picks in return for McNabb.

Given that near-sickening drop in value, it's hard to imagine that McNabb will be getting all that much money from the Vikings just to play the role of mentor. But then again, he's out of Washington so whatever he had to give up is probably worth it.

Donovan McNabb trade to Vikings 'done'

As a viking fan, everyone knows that we are not going anywhere this year. Best case(absolute best case) scenerio is 10-6 and we squeak into the playoffs. I dont mind bringing in Mcnabb to give Ponder a year to learn the offense without getting beat up on every play.  The real kicker is losing rice.  Our receiving depth is thin at best.  I think we should go after someone like Malcolm Floyd from the chargers.  He is tall, fast and has shown flashes of being a dominant receiver.

Mcnabb is done! Repeat Mcnabb is done! Let me clear this up for these NFL teams. If Mcnabb had anything left in the tank he would have never been traded to Washington. He would still be an Eagle! This is Andy Reid's guy and for him to have allowed the trade to Washington told me he was done. Now for the Vikings wow did you watch any film on Mcnabb before you gave away two draft picks. What did you see that makes you think he has anything to offer your team. If you didn't then watch the film it will confirm my opinion. Plus you let Rice walk so who is he throwing to. Your best move would be to trade Peterson to a team that will contend. The draft picks will help you rebuild because right now you are years away from being the elite team you use to be.

More patchwork by the Vikings...

The Vikings need to go out there and find a young QB who has some talent, and give him the future.  This is ridiculous, and one of the reasons why the Vikings are on the verge of moving from Minnesota --because their GM has no common sense when it comes to filling the QB spot.  How is it that Green Bay can do it year after year after year?  The have a good GM, who has a good group of people to consult with.  You need a football man to run your operations up there.  Is Brad Childress still running this team?  Because this sounds like something he'd do.

I'll almost guarantee that Jay Cutler will throw more Int's than McNabb. I mean I like my chances. The bears suck dicka
If that happens it will be mostly because McNabb throws most of his passes into the ground where nobody can catch them, and the fact that after his 12th INT in 6 games he'd get benched anyway, wheras Cutler will finish out the year.

Great move..Donovan can still obviously make plays. With AP to take pressure off of him he won't have to be a hero like he tried to be in Washinton. Vikes should win 10 or 11 games, don't think McNabb will carry them past the divisional round though. Packers still a better team IMO.

I think you are a dope! Of course he is an upgrade. This kid, Ponder is an option here. I like the fact that he insists he is in the running for the starting gig. He is accurate, a leader and should give a good account of himself. Why don't college players hit as hard as the pros? For that matter, anyone can get injured on any play. Any player can be "derailed" on one play. Gayle Sayers? No one I know would call him soft? Who says Luck is all that? Put them on the field and let him prove himself. Don't claim to be a Viking fan if you want them to go 0-16. You are not!

Sweet!  Can't wait to see the dump pass to AP.  That should open up the 10 yard slant pass to go the distance.  I expect Donovan McNabb to put up big numbers this year in Minnesota since older QB's thrive in the Northland.
