Donovan McNabb trade to Vikings 'done'

At various points on Tuesday and Wednesday, Donovan McNabb was as good as gone from Washington, borne out into the great midwest to mentor Christian Ponder with the Vikings, as first reported by CBSSports.com's own Mike Freeman.

But there was a little matter of McNabb agreeing to changing up his contract, since Minnesota obviously wasn't going to give him eight figures to do so.

That issue appears to have been cleared though, and the McNabb-to-Minny deal is "now official."

That's according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, who reported Wednesday that the deal is "done" and will be announced on Thursday.

A league source has confirmed the report to Freeman as well.

There haven't been precise details of the trade released yet, but it stands to reason that, as we previously noted, the Redskins will still receive a pair of sixth-round picks in return for McNabb.

Given that near-sickening drop in value, it's hard to imagine that McNabb will be getting all that much money from the Vikings just to play the role of mentor. But then again, he's out of Washington so whatever he had to give up is probably worth it.

Well, if that's what they are known for than McNabb will fit right in because nobody chokes more in big games than him.

McNabb will be an upgrade from the choices the Vikings had.  I think it's good that they go him, because nobody knows what Ponder will do.  I mean come on, he couldn't even stay healthy in college and those guys don't hit nearly as hard as the pros.  All it takes is one hit to derail the career of Ponder.

The best thing for the Vikings would be to go 0-16 so they can get Luck.  Let's hope everyone is right about McNabb being washed up (I'm a Vikings fan) becasue I don't want then to win a game this year.  I will take that sacrafice in order to have several successful years.

I wonder if McNabb will be able to throw more touchdowns than interceptions this year?  I doubt it...stick a fork in him.

I, too, am a lifelong Eagles fan, and wish the Vikings and McNabb success this year.  He'll be a good teacher for your new QB.

Among QB's, only A. Rodgers, N. O'donnell, and T. Brady have a lower int % than McNabb. I kind of like that. Couldn's say that for the gun-slinging Favre.

2nd best TD-INT ratio of all time 209-96. Behind Brady 217-92. And 1st QB ever to throw 30 tds and less than 10 tds. (Super Bowl season I think.)

And he is only behind Brady, Manning, for highest % among active QB's. I kind of like that too. His creds are solid. Rice if healthy made a mistake(career wise) going to the hawks.(he got big dough) When was the last WR to do anything great in Seattle. Largent?

Donovan McNabb trade to Vikings 'done'

Donovan McNabb finally gets to go somewhere he can acually have a chance to win some games. It's an ideal situation for McNabb and I expect him to flourish. He had some great years with the Eagles, but the Redskins organization and coaching staff treated him shabbilly. I hope he gets a chance to kick the Skins butt if they play this year.

He has good weapons on the Vikings team...Adrian Peterson, and a good offensive line should make keep McNabb off his back, and he can throw to Percy Harvin and Bernard Berrian. Also, the Vikings have a decent defense which should give the former Syracuse QB, more chances to score points for the Vikings offense which was 23rd in the league last year.

I don't McNabb will have to worry about Christian Ponder breathing down his neck. Ponder will hold the clipboard and learn under one of the better QBs to have played the game.

I wished we could have kept Rice. He makes some great catches. Unfortunetely for Seattle. No one to throw him the ball. I dont get it. As for the Vikings, just glad they didnt throw 41 mil for him. Hope that hip heals. Remember Bo Jackson anyone?

DMac was a no brainer. Good deal for the vikings. Remember just last year the skins threw the house to get him. The vikings gave him little to come in and groom Ponder. He will start. Got a lot of wide recievers to choose from in free agency. We are dropping berrian too. And his contract. Is Randy Moss still available lol.
