At various points on Tuesday and Wednesday, Donovan McNabb was as good as gone from Washington, borne out into the great midwest to mentor Christian Ponder with the Vikings, as first reported by CBSSports.com's own Mike Freeman.

But there was a little matter of McNabb agreeing to changing up his contract, since Minnesota obviously wasn't going to give him eight figures to do so.

That issue appears to have been cleared though, and the McNabb-to-Minny deal is "now official."

That's according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, who reported Wednesday that the deal is "done" and will be announced on Thursday.

A league source has confirmed the report to Freeman as well.

There haven't been precise details of the trade released yet, but it stands to reason that, as we previously noted, the Redskins will still receive a pair of sixth-round picks in return for McNabb.

Given that near-sickening drop in value, it's hard to imagine that McNabb will be getting all that much money from the Vikings just to play the role of mentor. But then again, he's out of Washington so whatever he had to give up is probably worth it.

Why because he didn't win with Washington.  Only Manning and Brady have better career winning percentages and he had nothing to work with in Washington.

This is a good move for the Vikes. I know McNabb is past his prime, and even in his prime he was overrated, but he is still capable of a good year and manning the ship until Ponder is ready.

Question:  Why do all the articles about DMc5 mention that he is a PRO BOWL QB and NOT mention that Matt Hasselbeck is also?  The Pro Bowler distinction means absoutely nothing anyway...but I still find it interesting.

Donovan McNabb trade to Vikings 'done'

I think McNabb still has some good football left in him and is the best shot MIN has at being contenders this year, while Ponder gets the hang of things. McNabb was dealt a raw deal last year, and no QB in over the past decade has been able to help the Redskins. Seriously how many QB's have actually came and went with the Redskins in the last 10 to 15 years? Someone do the research. lol

The Bears were in the NFC championship game last year, w/out Cutler they would not have been there.  How do you think any other QB in the league would have done w/their OL last year?  Tom Brady in the SB against the Giants looked avg because he had no time, Cutler had no time all year long.

I'm glad the Vikes got Mcnabb, but I may be in the minority of Viking fans.  A current Mpls Startribune poll (about 6,500 responses) has 53% of the respondents answering the question "should the vikings trade for Donovan Mcnabb" choosing "no, the ponder era should start now".
They booed him on draft day in Philly and look how that turned out ? No Lombardi trophy, but hey, what a run in between draft pick and deal to the Redskins. Vikings have a solid QB in McNabb. The rest of the team plays to potential and they'll be back in the playoffs in 2011-2012. I have no doubts McNabb will do fine. He has Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin & a TE that can catch in Shiancoe. Shame they couldn't retain Sidney Rice.

Donovan McNabb trade to Vikings 'done'

Donovan McNabb as a Viking is a great idea, last year.  The Vikings instead decided to play the Favre waiting game, McNabb ended up in Washington, Brad Childress got fired and now numerous players are going to leave.  Minnesota missed their window of opportunity to compete for a championship and now they must begin to rebuild.  Go to the bottom of the division and battle the Lions for who sucks more.
