Report: Kolb camp wants $30M guaranteed extension

Over and over again this offseason, I've said that no one's seen a bigger boost in their value than Kevin Kolb. That at this point all that value is squarely concentrated in terms of leverage against the Arizona Cardinals is neither here nor there.

But maybe Kolb's getting a little ahead of himself. See, according to a report from Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter, Kolb's camp is demanding an extension when he's dealt that features $30 million in guaranteed money.

No, really.

Kolb obviously wants to be traded -- he's intimated as much before and he might not show up to Philly's training camp on Wednesday -- but he doesn't just want to get traded, apparently.

He also wants to get paid. And paid like he's one of the best players in the NFL.

Oh, and he wants the team that's about to give up a player like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie as well a high draft pick in order to acquire him to do the paying. I mean, obviously he wants Arizona to cough up the cash, but it seems like Kolb's camp might be overstepping their bounds a bit on this issue.

Is Kolb worth the value discussed -- DRC plus a high draft pick -- in the potential deal? Maybe. We honestly don't know, and won't until (if?) we see him on the field for the Cardinals.

And, regardless of how much scouting they've done on Kolb, neither will they. Which is what makes a demand like $30 million guaranteed pretty ridiculous.

I would take Orton over Kolb, assuming the price tag on Kolb is substantially higher.  If the Broncos want a 1st round pick for Orton they too should be laughed at.  A 3rd or 4th rounder...okay, that seems more reasonable.

I agree, he has leverage, but he isn't worth $30 million guaranteed money, not even over a 10 year contract.  I just don't see the fascination in such an average QB.  He would be an upgrade for some teams for sure, but he will never be anything near a pro-bowl QB.  Any team that trades for him and give up more than a 2nd or 3rd round pick is nuts (1st rounder is out of the question).

All he has proven is that he was OK in a pass-happy, QB friendly Eagles offense.  Whoop d doo.

No bloody way! The guy's a whole 3-4 lifetime and has shown some but I've seen alot of inaccurate passes. They'd be better of offering what they're going to give Philly to Cincinnati for Palmer or getting Orton and drafting a QB to be mentored next year. Orton is at least accurate deep. If he is traded and Kolb can show then maybe but this smells like Scott Mitchell, Rob Johnson and other busts that looked good in other jerseys.

Kolb has leverage at this point.  Why shouldn't he use it?  He has one year on his present deal with Philly.  Does Arizona wanna make this deal for a one year contract?  The other option would be to use their franchise tag on him next year which would cost a whole lot more than $30 Million.
