Since the lockout ended, we've waited with baited breath to find out when Kevin Kolb would get traded from the Eagles (presumably to the Cardinals). It's a "done deal," a league source told CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, who notes that Arizona will give up exactly what we noted earlier -- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a high draft pick, believed to be a second-rounder.

Additionally, according to 97.5 The Fan's Adam Caplan who first reported the deal, the Cardinals have reached an agreement on a contract extension with Kolb that will pay him $63 million, including a whopping $20 million in guaranteed money.

Summer of Kolb

That is a LOT of cheddar for a guy who, as Freeman notes, hasn't proven anything. Of course, it's also less than the $30 million that Kolb's camp was reportedly demanding from the Cardinals in order to finalize the deal.

Then again, was there ever really a chance that he Cardinals wouldn't cave to Kolb's demands for a large extension? As we've written throughout the week, this was a game of chicken that was destined to end poorly for the Cardinals purely in terms of what they'd have to give up to land the quarterback.

There's obviously a shot that this deal does work for Arizona, if Kolb comes in and helps them reclaim the NFC West title. Or, if he's simply good enough to allow them to retain superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who hasn't been happy with Arizona's quarterback situation since Kurt Warner retired.

How much did the Cardinals pay Warner?  The amount of money here is a crime, but what to do??  I hope he works out..

Calling Darius Miles... calling Darius Miles...

$63 MILLION???

5 to 1 the guy doesn't even throw for 3000 yards or 20 TD's this year.

Wow.  One good year in college - at a small school no less - and you get $63M.

I suppose Kevin Kolb proved himeself in the time he played for AZ to think hes worth that much. I would have added contiencies to the deal. 4k plus passing yards for 2 of his first 3 seasons or they get to rework the deal. More touchdonws then interceptions all years or the deal could be reconstructed. These guys really need safe guards and performance bonuses. Thats how you get the most out of your player.

wow. just soo much money given.  Hope anyone who was on the owners side during the lockout is seeing this and realizing what morons they are.  Anyway, on the field.  Seems to me like it would be better to take the hit this year and convince Fitz that Andrew Luck was going to be the light at the end of the tunnel, if he agreed to stay in AZ.

I can't believe they actually gave a 2nd round pick in this deal also. Thanks

Serphnx - I'm only focusing on what Matt Schaub has done from the QB position.  He is not Manning, Brady, Brees, Rodgers or Vick granted; but he is in that next group of passers.  If the Texans can get similar "QB play" out of Kolb.  They should be happy.  I blame the lack of playoff games on the defense moreso than I blame him.
Go through the game logs and look at his performance against good teams.  Sure you can blame the defense, but it's not like he shows up either.  That's why this team can never make the playoffs imo.  He reminds me a lot of Chad Pennington, although Schaub does have a better arm.  Both are intelligent and have intangibles but stink against good teams and get injured a whole bunch.  Some guys in sports are just losers...imo Schaub is one of those guys.  They come up small in big situations.
