Since the lockout ended, we've waited with baited breath to find out when Kevin Kolb would get traded from the Eagles (presumably to the Cardinals). It's a "done deal," a league source told CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, who notes that Arizona will give up exactly what we noted earlier -- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a high draft pick, believed to be a second-rounder.

Additionally, according to 97.5 The Fan's Adam Caplan who first reported the deal, the Cardinals have reached an agreement on a contract extension with Kolb that will pay him $63 million, including a whopping $20 million in guaranteed money.

Summer of Kolb

That is a LOT of cheddar for a guy who, as Freeman notes, hasn't proven anything. Of course, it's also less than the $30 million that Kolb's camp was reportedly demanding from the Cardinals in order to finalize the deal.

Then again, was there ever really a chance that he Cardinals wouldn't cave to Kolb's demands for a large extension? As we've written throughout the week, this was a game of chicken that was destined to end poorly for the Cardinals purely in terms of what they'd have to give up to land the quarterback.

There's obviously a shot that this deal does work for Arizona, if Kolb comes in and helps them reclaim the NFC West title. Or, if he's simply good enough to allow them to retain superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who hasn't been happy with Arizona's quarterback situation since Kurt Warner retired.

Kevin Kolb traded to Cardinals with $63M deal?

WOW.  Guess there was enough super-hype that the Cardinals didn't notice that they bought an uproven QB for 63 Million. Maybe there will be real good reasons to talk about Kolb during the season.

Kevin Kolb traded to Cardinals with $63M deal?

I don't understand this years feeding frenzy w/the greedy moochy players. Kevin Kolb hasn't proved himself on the field as a reliable full time QB & for the Arizona Cardinals giving him this Outlandish offer is plain STUPID. These Negotiations amongst teams, players & player's agents don't represent the game on how it should be done. To them it's all about the PIECE OF THE PIE (MONEY). They're also giving up Cromartie & next year's 2nd round choice????? Wow they're in trouble. It seem to me everything is tieing into the NFL League itself.... Injury Prone Reggie Bush & Dolphins????? No Ronnie Brown but you put Bush in as his replacement????? A Commitee Back w/who? A True legitament Full time starter? Bush isn't even a 3-4th down back let alone the a Lone Back to bring in for 2 years. Scraping up leftovers like he was a FA. Bush has good hands & great runner but not proven to take any load of carries throughout his whole career. Washington Redskins finally got rid of the 2 biggest lazy demanding babies, Albert Haynesworth & Donavan McNabb. GM wasn't so smart signing them in the first place for crazy drop jawing amounts. These 2 do nothing but flapping their jaws, make excuses & complain besides they have NO WORK ETHIC AT ALL!!!!! Maybe Washington's GM didn't see this from the beginning!? Now he's finally catching on. Minnesota Vikings no props for you acquiring McNabb, yet another Media *Hore so let the Drama Stir Begin. New England shame on you w/a 3-4 Defense acquiring Hayesworth......BOOOOOOOOOO bad decision. The way it looks Albert might end up finding a new job just like Randy Moss. Someone w/Character issues never gets far just like you or I we're all disposable. GM's now days in all sports are making bad decisions. These are my indications & thoughts so what does it matter to anyone else. Some will take offense some won't, it is what it is

Kevin Kolb traded to Cardinals with $63M deal?

It's starting to look like everybody in the NFC West is doing their very best to hand the division title to the Rams. If the 49ers don't grab Kyle Orton, cancel the NFC West's season and just plug the Rams into the playoffs at 6th seed.

As for this deal, the Cardinals are obviously banking on the future. This move is meant to retain Fitz and hopefully produce a starting-calibur QB sometime in the next 2 years. It's not meant to take the Cards to the playoffs this year. For now, Arizona fans will have to grit their teeth and watch a $20 million learning process.

Kevin Kolb traded to Cardinals with $63M deal?

First off, the most important position to be in the NFL is super bowl champions not have the top QB in free agency.  Secondly, Kolb wasn't in free agency, he was still in contract with the Eagles, that's why they traded him.  If he was a free agent, the Eagles wouldn't have gotten anything in return.  As for an "average CB" I would like to think that a pro bowl CB is a little better than average especially since he is only 25.  And with a second round pick, the Eagles basically get their pick back that they wasted on Kolb, albeit maybe 10-20 picks later.  The Cardinals got ripped off for giving so much for an unproven QB.  Looks like cowboy fans are just as bad at gauging talent as the cowboys front office.

I agree with most of you post concerning Kolb, but I watch the same games you do, and I don't see a problem with the way Samuels tackles.  In fact in one game last year he leveled at least two people in one game.
