Since the lockout ended, we've waited with baited breath to find out when Kevin Kolb would get traded from the Eagles (presumably to the Cardinals). It's a "done deal," a league source told CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, who notes that Arizona will give up exactly what we noted earlier -- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a high draft pick, believed to be a second-rounder.

Additionally, according to 97.5 The Fan's Adam Caplan who first reported the deal, the Cardinals have reached an agreement on a contract extension with Kolb that will pay him $63 million, including a whopping $20 million in guaranteed money.

Summer of Kolb

That is a LOT of cheddar for a guy who, as Freeman notes, hasn't proven anything. Of course, it's also less than the $30 million that Kolb's camp was reportedly demanding from the Cardinals in order to finalize the deal.

Then again, was there ever really a chance that he Cardinals wouldn't cave to Kolb's demands for a large extension? As we've written throughout the week, this was a game of chicken that was destined to end poorly for the Cardinals purely in terms of what they'd have to give up to land the quarterback.

There's obviously a shot that this deal does work for Arizona, if Kolb comes in and helps them reclaim the NFC West title. Or, if he's simply good enough to allow them to retain superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who hasn't been happy with Arizona's quarterback situation since Kurt Warner retired.

Many may know them as well but nobody knows quality QB like Andy Reid.  He worked with Favre and McNabb and he decided after 3 years to let Kolb go, think about it Cardinals while you wait another decade to be relevant again.  He'd rather go into this season with Vick and presumably make a run at Favre as the backup and look for a QB to develop for the future instead of turning over the keys to his offense to Kolb.

Boy it was questionable when the Eagles handed Kolb the keys to the car with really no surefire reason. Not only did they jack the Redskins for McNabb, but then they rob AZ for a CB and draft pick... AND they get rid of Kolb's contract. Wow! This front office is phenomenal.

Good thing I am not a AZ fan.  Kolb got his ass handed to him the first week against the Pack and the only reason that game was close was Vick.  What else does he have to hang his hat on other than what Al Bundy would espouse as an accomplishment.  Good, another NFC team making stupid choices like Seattle thinking T Jax is anything more than a high school QB.

They had nowhere to go. He is probably the best QB on market, but more importantly they were going to have problems keeping Fitz without this move. AZ is a team a QB away from being favored in the west. An expensive purchase no doubt, but a good one.
Then we should have just traded Fitz. The Cardinals are a long way away from being favored in the West. The Rams are going to roll to this title, and it's going to take the Cardinals years to recover from this move.

As a Eagle fan, I can guarantee you that Kevin Kolb is a FOOTBALL PLAYER.
Oh, I feel so much better now. I was seriously starting to wonder why he was wearing a helmet and shoulder pads.

If the cardinals gave up any draft picks in this deal they are insane. Next year seriously might be one of the best QB drafts we will see for quite some time. Matt Barkley, Andrew Luck, Nick Foles, Kellen Moore, those Houston and Northwestern QB's, seriously there are going to be at least two or three starter quality guys out of next years stock.

and this is why some teams stink every year--from lineart--to anderson to this bum--and 63 mil to boot.  good job coach Wiz. you prove every year that the steelers definately made the right decision in hiring mike tomlin.  what a joke.

KLM11 - So your basically saying that Vick can't win the big one because he has dog fighting/ killing in his past.  You have issues dude.  You need to get over it!  The first step is atleast admitting that he became a more complete player last year compared to his days with Atlanta.  Can you do that?  I doubt it.  And you call Vick psycho.
