Since the lockout ended, we've waited with baited breath to find out when Kevin Kolb would get traded from the Eagles (presumably to the Cardinals). It's a "done deal," a league source told's Mike Freeman, who notes that Arizona will give up exactly what we noted earlier -- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a high draft pick, believed to be a second-rounder.

Additionally, according to 97.5 The Fan's Adam Caplan who first reported the deal, the Cardinals have reached an agreement on a contract extension with Kolb that will pay him $63 million, including a whopping $20 million in guaranteed money.

Summer of Kolb

That is a LOT of cheddar for a guy who, as Freeman notes, hasn't proven anything. Of course, it's also less than the $30 million that Kolb's camp was reportedly demanding from the Cardinals in order to finalize the deal.

Then again, was there ever really a chance that he Cardinals wouldn't cave to Kolb's demands for a large extension? As we've written throughout the week, this was a game of chicken that was destined to end poorly for the Cardinals purely in terms of what they'd have to give up to land the quarterback.

There's obviously a shot that this deal does work for Arizona, if Kolb comes in and helps them reclaim the NFC West title. Or, if he's simply good enough to allow them to retain superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who hasn't been happy with Arizona's quarterback situation since Kurt Warner retired.

Shoot, the guy has not got a shot full time except for last year, intill the injury. Its better then what they had before. Everyone thought Warner was done and look what he did for us. Lets see what he does first before throwing him under the bus so fast.

It's tough to be Cards fan when the people who run the team are this foolish. Kolb hasn't done sh*it in the league to earn 63 mil. We would have been better off keeping Leinart.

I am so glad the Seahawks didn't give in to this. I didn;t want Kolb to start with and now that I see how much they paid for an unproven QB I'm really glad. Also makes the Jackson and Rice signings seem all that much better. And don;t count the Seahawks out of the Luck Lotto.

Kevin Kolb traded to Cardinals with $63M deal

Kolb won't be allowed to practice with the Cardinals until Aug. 4, the same day that any incoming veteran free agents would first be allowed to work out. That will be the beginning of the end for him, they will see what the got.

Kolb has openly talked about his desire to play for Arizona, saying it would be a good fit. The quarterback, who turns 27 next month, has appeared in 19 games, with seven starts in the last two seasons. He has completed 61 percent of his passes for 2,082 yards and 11 touchdowns with 14 interceptions.

Poor play at quarterback was a major component in Arizona's dropoff from two-time NFC West champion to a 5-11 season last year. The team is set to release quarterback Derek Anderson on Thursday, and coach Ken Whisenhunt had emphasized that the Cardinals were aggressively seeking a veteran at the position.

Kolb began last season as the heir apparent to in Philadelphia, but he went down with a concussion in the opener, losing his job to Vick in the process. Kolb did have a couple of strong performances after that when Vick was hurt. Against the in Week 6, Kolb completed 23 of 29 passes for 326 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Man did they over pay for a back up, I dont know what they see in him, maybe they want to look like they are tring to get back to the the Super Bowl, what a joke!!!!!

At least you guys might get Andrew Luck...

I wonder who your head coach will be next year.
Those are the only two positives of this deal. I have never been a Whisenhunt fan.

@ MOBOT... Spoken like you never watched football before. You must be a Giants fan, lol. Vick won the job outright from Kolb. Kolb is and will be a great quarterback and definitely a good pickup from AZ. Vick played out of his mind last year, Jackson will be back, and our receiver core has depth...Maclin anyone??? Eagles fans are rejoicing today, we have the most explosive offenses in the NFL....get your mind right, son!

Can you name a better available QB on the market?
Kyle Orton. That was easy.
Card fans, you have a nice young QB coming your way!
Pity we have to wait until he graduates from Stanford to draft him.
