Since the lockout ended, we've waited with baited breath to find out when Kevin Kolb would get traded from the Eagles (presumably to the Cardinals). It's a "done deal," a league source told CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, who notes that Arizona will give up exactly what we noted earlier -- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a high draft pick, believed to be a second-rounder.

Additionally, according to 97.5 The Fan's Adam Caplan who first reported the deal, the Cardinals have reached an agreement on a contract extension with Kolb that will pay him $63 million, including a whopping $20 million in guaranteed money.

Summer of Kolb

That is a LOT of cheddar for a guy who, as Freeman notes, hasn't proven anything. Of course, it's also less than the $30 million that Kolb's camp was reportedly demanding from the Cardinals in order to finalize the deal.

Then again, was there ever really a chance that he Cardinals wouldn't cave to Kolb's demands for a large extension? As we've written throughout the week, this was a game of chicken that was destined to end poorly for the Cardinals purely in terms of what they'd have to give up to land the quarterback.

There's obviously a shot that this deal does work for Arizona, if Kolb comes in and helps them reclaim the NFC West title. Or, if he's simply good enough to allow them to retain superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who hasn't been happy with Arizona's quarterback situation since Kurt Warner retired.

Kevin Kolb traded to Cardinals with $63M deal?

Everyone has to now think of money spent in a different way.  Now that there is a rookie wage scale, the money spent on draft picks will now shift to the veteran players, as it should be.  No more $70M deals for rookie QBs.  Think about it like this, Kevin Kolb is getting less than Matt Ryan did coming out of college.  If I were an NFL team and had my choice of Kevin Kolb today and pre-NFL Matt Ryan for those two deals, I would take Kolb since he's shown potential and has NFL experience.

The Cardinals are going to win the weak west and have a decent season record to boot. This will prove to be a good trade for Az. and Kolb will be the lynch pin of a good year.
Keep dreaming. This will never be a good trade for Arizona and the Cardinals might as well start putting up decorations in the NFC West basement. At least we have one more year to enjoy Fitzgerald before he goes somewhere else.

Cardinals fans - How good is DRC? Shut-down, great, above average, or average? I don't watch enough Arizona games to know. Thanks!
Great, although he does occasionally have days where he only looks above average. Philly fleeced us. I can't believe how much damage we did to our team today.

Kevin Kolb traded to Cardinals with $63M deal

It will be historical.  The Eagles will always remember how they let one of the best all time QBs go AND at such a young age - in order to keep Vick - a 32 year old running back QB felon in the last years of his career. Once everyone got footage on Vick, it was all over.  At the end of last year, every team had him figured out.   Trading Kolb was a HUGE mistake!!!!  Seeing how Jackson won't be there...hmm...throwing to who again?   with or without Jackson, Kold hit them all and rang up the points.  He's the real deal and he gets it.  HAHAHAHAHA. Eagle fans rejoice!

63 million?!

I hope someone has the presence of mind to start documenting the spending spree by "Poor Mouth" NFL owners and the "I Got to Feed My Family" players of the following this lockout and the newly ratified CBA so the fans can sign off with a big "FU!" when both sides start bitchin' and moanin' 10 years from now.

DRC has a great one year but was beaten a bit last year. I would say that once the recievers figure him out they are ok and knoiw how to play against him.  His best year was 6 int's with 25 passes defended.  I would not say he is shut down in any way.  The other corner Toler with Az had about as good a year except he had 90 tackles to 44 for DRC.

So many doubters, I guess Kolb should just pack it in now. Maybe the whole team should just pack it in. PALEEEZE! Give me a break. Kolb was performing well before his injury and should never have lost his job once healthy again. The Cardinals are going to win the weak west and have a decent season record to boot. This will prove to be a good trade for Az. and Kolb will be the lynch pin of a good year.

Hey for all the Vick hater I'm glad to see Kolb get a chance.  It's his own fault anyway right -  He didn't win the job outright from Vick.  Vick played better than Kolb and Kolb is gone.  Eagles get a nice DB Cromartie and the Fitz get someone who can throw the ball down the field.
