Asomugha

Posted by Josh Katzowitz

While the Texans grabbed Johnathan Joseph and the Steelers re-upped with Ike Taylor, knocking two of the three most-coveted free agent cornerbacks off the market, we’re still waiting to see where the most-expensive of them all, Nnamdi Asomugha, will sign.

The original thought(s) were the Texans, the Jets and the 49ers. Then, as Houston took on Joseph on Thursday night, it became the Jets, the 49ers (and maybe the Buccaneers, the Cowboys and the Raiders (!)). All were rumors, and supposedly, there was a chance it would be resolved late Thursday night or early Friday morning*.

*Luckily, this didn’t happen while the Eye on Football blog was catching a few hours of shut-eye.

Apparently, it’s now down to two teams. As NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reports, Asomugha will sign either with the Jets or the Cowboys, and some believe Dallas actually is the favorite.

This will be the first big competitive test for New York coach Rex Ryan and his brother, Dallas defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, since Ryan took over the Cowboys job. It adds a little bit of intrigue to a situation that continues to be one of the most interesting storylines of the new NFL season.

Who can afford to sign and pay a guy who will probably command at least $15 million a year?

Jets CB Darrelle Revis obviously would love to have the second-best CB in the league playing opposite of him, and Jets QB Mark Sanchez has intimated that he (and maybe some of his teammates) would be willing to restructure his contract in order to land a big free agent.

The Cowboys, while way over the salary cap limit at the beginning of the season, has been dumping big-salaried players since Tuesday in an effort to sign a high-impact player.

My guess: the Jets still have the upper-hand. But with Jerry Jones always looking to get what he wants, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Asomugha end up in Dallas.

Nnamdi is the Best CB in the NFL, Revis is second best. Nnamdi is also a better teamate, he never held out, like Revis did last year, and has better stats. If Nnamdi is covering one side of the field and Revis the other, QB's will throw at Revis, he's shorter then Nnamdi. He loves Rob Ryan and Dallas is the biggest sports stage there is, and he will make more $ and not have a huge income tax that NY has. He also means more to Dallas, they need to upgrade their DB's, Jets have a completely good DB core, they need pass rushers and playmakers on O. Nnamdi is the best and he should go to Dallas. I am a Raiders fan and wish we could keep him, but Dallas it should be.

The Jets will land Asomugha because a Super Bowl appearance will be more likely sooner rather than later. Every player wants a Super Bowl ring, especially when you've had to play for the Raiders .

Now we  will see if he wants to win a super bowl or  get the big  money because he m will never win a superbowl in dallas!
That's pretty funny coming from a guy whose favorite pro teams haven't won shit but one Stanley Cup.  Oh wait, that's right, the Cubs did win the World Series a little over a hundred years ago.  Keep hating loser.  Cool

Does that make JETS worse than Heat fans as Heat made championship game while JETS didn't (twice in a row almost) (Actually 43 in a row).

Jets becoming poorman McNabb's Eagles (ok 3 less conference championship and one less super bowl appearance)...maybe one day can strive to become like Kelly’s. Bills

Cowboys/Giants have had dynasties and may again.   JETS can only dream. And talk a lot of trash

First of the Giants have NEVER had a dynasty! Your right the Cowboys HAD a dynasty but when its been 15 years since the Cowboys were relevant in the NFL. They just recorded their 1st playoff win last year. But you talk about the Heat MAKING it to the championship game?? Did they get anything for just making it? But this move by the Jets would make them simular to the 2000 Ravens and the 2002 Tampa Bay Bucs! Defense win championships! A great defense will beat a great offense EVERYTIME!

Listen Revis is the best hands down...twice as physical, tackles better in the open field and blitz like a LB... Asomugha is a great COVER guy but Revis is the better FOOTBALL player at his position by far. Mr ten dollar word guy who mentioned playing opposite Revis would free him up to play zone occasionally doesnt know Rex or his defense at all!!! the whole system revolves around his corners playing man 99% of the game and with Asomugha wearing green and white it would be 100% of the time and kitchen sink blitz packages on every down.   Oh yeah this isnt just an opinion EVERY single analyst and former player speaks of Rvis as the best in the game and I think they know better than we do!

Just let Dallas have him.  He shouldn't command more than Revis.

Let's just sign Cro and Braylon and give it another run at a 3rd straight AFC Championship game.
