HeapThe Cardinals haven’t been a big “throw it to the TE” squad lately, but after the team announced it had signed Ravens castoff Todd Heap to the mix, that most likely will change.

Heap, cut by Baltimore last week, inked a two-year deal, and though he’s the sixth TE in camp for Arizona, he immediately moves to the top of the depth chart.

Apparently, Heap -- who caught 40 passes for 599 yards and five touchdowns last season -- was visiting the Jets when he decided to take the offer from his hometown team. According to Ravens Insider Aaron Wilson, the contract is worth between $5 million and $6 million, and he immediately becomes a big-name target for new QB Kevin Kolb while helping alleviate some pressure off No. 1 WR Larry Fitzgerald.

It's a homecoming of sorts for Heap, who played in college at Arizona State and is from the Phoenix area.

Agree great pick up for Zona..Kolb loves throwing to his TE as like in Philly when he started while Mcnabb was hurt he used the Te a ton and it showed easily in stats. But more here it will draw attention to the middle with his sure hands to free up Fitz. This is going to be a bigger pick up than they could of hoped for as I see the Nfc west to be a fun race between the Niners , Rams and of course Cards..

I bet Steeler fans are happy to see him go though...lol

This is great for Arizona.  Not only did they pick up a QB in Kolb they also picked up TE who can help out if Fitz isn't open downfield.  After Arizona inked Todd Heap the huge sigh you heard was Fitzgerald saying that you inder his breath.  Fitzgerald barring injury should be in line to put up some serious numbers this year.

5 TO 6 MILLION..... We love HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAP in Bmore but no way is this guy worth this much......  at best he is 1.5 to 2 million....  this is a desperate move to protect Kolb as he will be his saftey net, however he will only be on the field 7-9 games....

Is Heap  ????  from signing the contract?  Heap is the most brittle TE in the NFL.  Heap gets hurt stretching at home.

Great pickup by the Cardinals and TE Todd Heap by both hooking up by each other. The Cards have been looking for a good TE for many years and finally they get one in Heap who will help them and newly acquired QB Kevin Kolb in the passing game in which Cards need right now and Heap needs a place were a team needs a TE and the Cards need one bad so it fits perfectly for both parties.

It is the most obvious situation where Heap can make Arizona's team very good. First, a great TE is a young QB's best friend. Second, he can take some pressure off of Fitz. Third, the running game always benefits from a better passing game. Lastly, and most important... Heap has to stay healthy for any of this to make a difference. A healthy Heap can make Arizona a top 12 offense in the league.
