It looks like Matt Light will again be protecting Tom Brady's blind side in New England. According to various reports, the left tackle agreed to a two-year deal with the Patriots Sunday night.

Light, 33, has played his entire 10-year career in New England and appeared to have no interest in leaving via free agency. He didn't visit other teams, although it wasn't immediately clear if the Patriots were interested in bringing him back.

The team selected offensive tackle Nate Solder in the first round of the April draft, a move that initially puzzled some draft experts because more polished, ready-to-start tackles like Anthony Castonzo and Gabe Carimi were available. Then again, in 2009 New England plugged rookie Sebastian Vollmer in at left tackle when Light went was injured and Vollmer played well.

For now, though, Solder remains unsigned and Light is back in the fold.

"Matt's been a good player for us for a long time," Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio told the Boston Globe Sunday.

It also means, as the Globe points out, that the five offensive linemen that ended the 2010 season return for 2011: Light, left guard Logan Mankins, center Dan Koppen, right guard Dan Connolly and right tackle Vollmer.

Patriots, Matt Light agree to 2-year deal

Thanks Yankees, Patriots fans love Matt Light, it would have been sad to see him go.

He's really a classy guy, hard worker, and gives back to the community.  He's not the "dominant" force he once was, but he's still a great leader, and the most talented player on that line.  He is getting old, but another 2 seasons sounds right to me.  Of course, Mankins is still the heart and soul, but Matt Light would have been tough to replace.  Especially for a rookie like Nate Solder.  Now, there's a lot of quality depth on the line with Rich Ohrnberger, Solder, Cannon, LeVoir and Wendell backing up the big boys.
Wonder what this means for Quinn Ojinnaka?

Being a Bills fan this is very bad news. It's nice to see the quiet nice guys get some over due attention now and then. People often forget that players like Light are the reason QB's look good. Hard working guy with a lot of heart. I always liked this guy truely under rated!

Glad to hear it.  Give time to let Solder develop (under some darn good players), and hopefully give Cannon time too since Mankins will be gone next year.
