Orton running away with Broncos QB competition

All offseason long, two things about the Broncos have been assumed. One, that Kyle Orton will be traded at some point. And two, that Tim Tebow will just take over and run the Denver offense and succeed like he did at Florida.

OK, we didn't all assume that -- some of us knew John Fox wouldn't want a youngster like Tebow running his offense. But Denver seemed headed in that direction anyway.

One problem: Tebow's getting absolutely torched by Orton thus far in camp.

Like, to the point where Orton is the only guy getting reps with the No. 1 offense, according to the Denver Post's Mike Klis.

"[Tebow] and Brady Quinn are neck and neck in the battle for the No. 2 quarterback spot," Klis wrote Monday.
Orton's Offseason

Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated, also dispatched to Denver's camp, writes that Orton has "clearly separated himself" from Tebow and Quinn, though he notes that it's not out of the realm of possibility that Tebow could still wind up starting.

And it's not -- Denver has a lot invested in him, would probably like to see him succeed (or at least succeed enough to trade him), and clearly doesn't see Orton as the answer (given that they put him on the block).

But as I said a few weeks ago, this is a Fox-run team and expecting to see Tebow take over for a vet like Orton is kind of a long-shot.

Especially when there's such a clear-cut talent discrepancy between the two on the field.

Seriously who hires these guys at CBS? You are writing that after 2 days of practice someone like Orton is just blowing away Tebow? Give me &^%ing break. If he was that good he would have never been up for trade discussions and oh what was Denvers record last year in the lowly AFC West? Tebow played in about a total of three games had of 650 yds passing, 5 tds, 3 ints and passer rating over 80. Thats ok for a rookie, last time I checked P Manning set a record for interceptions as a rookie and he turned out pretty well. I am not saying start Tewbow, shit follow the Rodgers/Palmer method and let him sit but dont be such a dumb ass and just spout shit off.

Careful what you wish for because under Tebow they will struggle? I'm assuming you watched them play last year? They struggled with Orton, especially in the red zone. They'll struggle with Orton more this year because Fox loves the run game. With Tebow behind center, you have a qb who can actually run the ball.......and he can pass too. Orton is a loser, always has been, and always will be. That's why NOBODY wants him. He's living in a dream world if he thinks he can command more money as a free agent than the Dolphins were willing to pay him had a trade transpired. Can you say "out of the league" in a couple years??

Ultimately doesn't make any difference. They might be more fun to watch with Tebow, but they are hopeless regardless. They are the victims of Josh McDaniels and a lot of poor drafts and questionable personnel decisions by Shanahan before that. They have been mediocre for years, and will continue to be unless the new front office shows that they can turn things around.

Kyle Orton is easily the most under-rated QB in the NFL. People who say he's not a gamer obviously haven't seen him play for a few years. He is an absolute beast and entirely worthy of the C he wears on his jersey.

He throws a beautiful ball and rarely fumbles or throws picks. He is very intelligent and commands the respect of the entire team. Just look at the numbers he put up after 3/4 of a season, with absolutely no help from the running game. Sure he had plenty of chances to throw under McD, but the fact remains that defenses knew he was going to throw and they still couldn't stop him. He is incredibly accurate, he finds the open receiver, and never stares down a single target.

Tebow has a lot of work to do before supplanting Orton and that is not a dig on Tebow, it's just a simple fact. Orton is a samurai, so please refrain from tearing him down with irrelevant, imaginative nonsense.

I would like to hang on to Orton until Tebow proves that he is the better QB. Theres nothing wrong with letting Tebow sit for a few years until he is ready.

Orton is clearly a better PRO QUARTERBACK than Tebow... But ignorant Broncos fans will push for Tebow because they don't know any better. John Fox is in an impossible situation, unless Orton has a pro bowl caliber year they're going to riot for Tebow. Careful what you wish for because under Tebow they will struggle.  The catch 22 for Fox is regardless of Tebow's performance if they don't win he'll get fired. I wouldn't touch the Denver coaching job with a 10 foot pole.  Way to go McDaniels

That is the dumbest take of all tolten.  Elway is cemented in history and no matter what anyone does that won't change.

Nice takes.  Well thought out gatorhater and Bommer12!  When you put it like that who can argue?  Tebow is a winner, that doesn't always come out in practice and drills.  He's a gamer when it is on the line.  orton is not.  Bottom line.

Tolten:  Really?  Thanks for letting everyone know how much of a dooooosh you are.  Must be from Cleveland, still sore over "The Drive" and "The Fumble".  Go burn a couch, doooosh.
