All offseason long, two things about the Broncos have been assumed. One, that Kyle Orton will be traded at some point. And two, that Tim Tebow will just take over and run the Denver offense and succeed like he did at Florida.

OK, we didn't all assume that -- some of us knew John Fox wouldn't want a youngster like Tebow running his offense. But Denver seemed headed in that direction anyway.

One problem: Tebow's getting absolutely torched by Orton thus far in camp.

Like, to the point where Orton is the only guy getting reps with the No. 1 offense, according to the Denver Post's Mike Klis.

"[Tebow] and Brady Quinn are neck and neck in the battle for the No. 2 quarterback spot," Klis wrote Monday.
Orton's Offseason

Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated, also dispatched to Denver's camp, writes that Orton has "clearly separated himself" from Tebow and Quinn, though he notes that it's not out of the realm of possibility that Tebow could still wind up starting.

And it's not -- Denver has a lot invested in him, would probably like to see him succeed (or at least succeed enough to trade him), and clearly doesn't see Orton as the answer (given that they put him on the block).

But as I said a few weeks ago, this is a Fox-run team and expecting to see Tebow take over for a vet like Orton is kind of a long-shot.

Especially when there's such a clear-cut talent discrepancy between the two on the field.

Orton running away with Broncos QB competition

I can live without the Drama ... the quarterback position gets a lot fo attention, but a seasoned coach like Fox isn't going to allow the media, or a Josh McDaniel reach in the draft, dictate the starting QB.    If Kyle Orton gives the Broncos the best chance to win, he will start and play the whole season.

Tim Tebow is a great draw, but like Kevin Kolb - once a better QB steps up - you will sit on the bench and wait your turn.

It's good to have a mtoivated back-up in Tebow, so I am sure the Broncos head ofice is perectly happy right now.

And so it Kyle Orton.   Good for them ...

I guess you didn't watch the Texans game last December did you? That comeback from 17-0 to 24-23 was ALL TEBOW!

Are you refering to the 2010 Houston Texans? You know, the team that posted the 4th worst passing defense for a season in the 75-plus year history on the National Football League!

Big Deal!

Orton running away with Broncos QB competition

There are a handful of people on earth who can accurately assess wether a college QB will play well in the pros.  Thats why thre are so many Ryan Leaf's and Jamarcus Russell's drafted so highly.  No one knows what Tebow will do until he's on the field in a meaningful situation.  Though it's telling the organization is leaning towards Orton, despite the fact he isn't considered the long term answer.  Orton is solid, not great.  Tebow is unknown.  On a bad team, the 2nd string QB alsways seems like the answer...

It seems like Orton is handling himself well by just being quiet and going out and taking the starting job by the horns. In fact, it seems they are ALL acting like professionals and keeping their mouths shut. I like that.  I might just cheer for the Broncs a little this year.

Orton won't run away with anything. Last time I checked, the Broncos won 4 games last year with Orton at the helm. This guy can practice great but he is not winner and doesnt make the plays it requires to be one. Last time I checked, it matters what you do on the field, just ask Bear fans. Besides, we need to find out what Tebow can do, right now. The Broncos might be the worst team in football this year.  If Tebow bombs, we will be in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes, anyway. Dont tell me Elway wouldnt like to get a hold of the Stanford star QB !

Lets be realistic, we are going to have a rookie defense, which most likely will get shredded by good offenses. We also now have a coach who's offensive game plan is like watching paint dry, not a good combo. Am, I the only one that doesnt like the Fox signing? I guess after the boy wonder, anything is better than that mess.

Denver goin nowhere this year.Orton isn't the answer. Might as well start Tebow and confirm one way or another if he can handle the job. Denver has nothing to lose in doing this.
