Orton running away with Broncos QB competition

All offseason long, two things about the Broncos have been assumed. One, that Kyle Orton will be traded at some point. And two, that Tim Tebow will just take over and run the Denver offense and succeed like he did at Florida.

OK, we didn't all assume that -- some of us knew John Fox wouldn't want a youngster like Tebow running his offense. But Denver seemed headed in that direction anyway.

One problem: Tebow's getting absolutely torched by Orton thus far in camp.

Like, to the point where Orton is the only guy getting reps with the No. 1 offense, according to the Denver Post's Mike Klis.

"[Tebow] and Brady Quinn are neck and neck in the battle for the No. 2 quarterback spot," Klis wrote Monday.
Orton's Offseason

Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated, also dispatched to Denver's camp, writes that Orton has "clearly separated himself" from Tebow and Quinn, though he notes that it's not out of the realm of possibility that Tebow could still wind up starting.

And it's not -- Denver has a lot invested in him, would probably like to see him succeed (or at least succeed enough to trade him), and clearly doesn't see Orton as the answer (given that they put him on the block).

But as I said a few weeks ago, this is a Fox-run team and expecting to see Tebow take over for a vet like Orton is kind of a long-shot.

Especially when there's such a clear-cut talent discrepancy between the two on the field.

I see your point, but think that Tebow is merely a motivational leader. He is not one to win a game for the team. Orton is a much better option for a team trying to get to .500

You are correct about finding another soure. Funny this report says Tebow looked like the best  QB in camp today.

Tim Tebow improved his reads today at #broncos training camp, much smoother dropback, footwork was good

Tebow did look awkward running play action, needs more reps doing that, but straight dropback was strong

I like Tebow's footwork when setting up, stays light on his feet which helps already good escapability

Tebow's release was nice & high today, ppl who talk about his throwing motion need an update it's not textbook but 1000x better than FL days

scout team WRs still letting Tebow down, today Matthew Willis let him down too with a drop on a slant, Timmy had good timing, throw on money

Tebow had his ups and downs, but most exciting plays of practice came from him and Julius Thomas, yes I would say T2 the best QB today

Orton had some passes batted down at line of scrimmage, still looks solid, just not exciting under pressure - who knew right??

Tolten, you're an idiot, this has nothing to do with Elway, his legacy or ego.  Elway is the one who attempted to broker the trade of Kyle Orton, which was only held up because Orton pushed Miami for a new deal.  Elway wants to see the Broncos return to dominance as they were prior to his retirement, he doesn't care about Tebow's popularity and to say that he hired Fox to massage his ego and keep Orton as the starter is ridiculous.  Keep your pointless and mis-guided thoughts to yourself.

Thank you tolten, are you a professional psychologist or did you just stay at a Holiday Inn last night? Do you really think Elway would give into his deserved playing days ego over finding success now? Don't you think he wants to prove his front office skills now and be known for more than just a player. Don't you think he wants to be the best executive vice president of football operations in the league. The only way he will do that is to win and the only way to do that is with the best players on the field. Are you really going to hold his draft antics over him, from a time when he was a kid and following the advice of people who were acting in his best interests? C'mon man, I think you are jealous of who Elway was and you want to be the golden boy Tebow yourself.

This is entirely about John Elway's ego. Elway had become so jealous of Tim Tebow becoming the rising popular star of Denver. Elway needs adulation. If Tebow becomes a legend in Denver , then Elway's fame, in Elway's own depraved mind, takes a hit. Of course, no one could ever replace Elway. But, that is not how Elway sees it or fears it.
So, that is why Elway was not easy with compliments and encouragement to Tebow. That is why John Fox was hired. Fox was hired because Elway knew Fox would want Orton at quarterback. Elway knew that Fox would not want Tebow at quarterback. Elway doesn't want anyone but Elway to shine in Denver. Go back to Elway's  Stanford days for his true ego: "Don't draft me; I won't play for you."

You need to find another source other than MIKE KLIS.  He has been biased against Tim Tebow from day one.  For a nationwide report, for you to regurgitate someone else's opinion is disappointing. Shoddy reporting. It would do you well to find another source that is a little more credible.  Orton is not running away with the competition. He is taking the majority of the snaps, but we will have to see.  I for one, dont see him as a winner when push comes to shove.  He is a good quarterback but not a great Quarterback  Tebow will make a great quarterback if he is allowed to play like some of the other new players. Let him play and see what he does

Of course Orton is running away with it. Tebow is a fullback that was drafted as a quarterback and Brady Quinn is Brady Quinn. Orton is a professional quarterback with a track record.
