It's sometimes easy to get lost in the maelstrom that is Oakland Raiders football, but tight end Zach Miller was one of the most underrated players at his position during his four-year NFL career. And now he'll take his game some 800 miles north to Seattle where the Seahawks have reached an agreement with the former second-round pick out of Arizona State, the Associated Press is reporting.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweets that the deal is for five years, worth $34 million, and includes $17 million in guarantees.

Miller joins Tarvaris Jackson and Sidney Rice as the newest faces on Seattle's offense, and he'll team up with another young tight end with unlimited potential: John Carlson who, because of injuries, changing schemes and quarterbacks, has seen his reception totals decline in each of his three NFL seasons.

On Monday before Miller had agreed to terms but after it was announced he was visiting Seattle, ESPN.com's Mike Sando detailed the plan for Carlson and the Seahawks' tight ends in 2011: "[New offensive coordinator Darrell] Bevell is implementing an offense similar to the one Mike Holmgren ran in Seattle when Holmgren pushed the team to make Carlson a second-round draft choice. That angle still might come into play, but Carlson isn't the only receiving tight end the Seahawks are considering as they move through the early stages of training camp."

In terms of raw numbers, Miller has 226 career receptions for 2,712 yards and 12 touchdowns, and he hauled in 60 catches for 685 yards (5 TDs) in 2010. Carlson, meanwhile, has 137 receptions for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns, including 31 catches for 318 yards (1 TD) a season ago.

Miller will be reunited with Tom Cable, the new Seattle assistant head coach/offensive line and former Raiders head coach.

In other Seahawks personnel news (via the AP): Defensive end Jimmy Wilkerson has also signed with the team. He spent last season with New Orleans, but his best seasons came in 2008 and 2009 with Tampa Bay when he worked with new Seattle defensive line coach Todd Wash. Wilkerson started a career-high 15 games in 2009 and had career bests in tackles (46) and sacks (6). Wilkerson was the second defensive free agent to reach a deal with Seattle in as many days. The Seahawks brought back cornerback Kelly Jennings on Monday.

I like this move.  Miller had all those impressive numbers despite Russell as his QB, just think what a better QB could do for Miller. I only hope that Jackson is a better QB than Russell at this point I dont know.  Seahawks have made some good moves this off season

Bible burner..  You are an idiot!   His stats don't appease to you??  He played for the Raiders, no stats are impressive on that team.  He was a blocking beast, and when he did run a route, he always got open.  You need to improve your lack of knowledge ( on more than football it appears).
Come back and post when you know something.

come on,  our roster has turned around for the better. I like the moves, miller is a quality football player. I see TJ and campbell as similar type QB's ,campbell has had his chances to prove he could be a top flight QB, TJ really hasn't had an extended chance. We weren't really going to contend for SB this year anyway, but we should be contending for the division as weak as it is. This roster has been rebuilt for the better, they started where they should have, on the o line. How much and how fast we improve right now is going to be up to those 5 guys on the o line. It will be nice if the same 5 guys start all season and grow together and play with attitude. you can't gut a roster and rebuild it overnight. our RB"S and receivers are fine, and our QB"S are fine for now, next year we get our QB and focus on the D. There are alot of question marks right now, but you can never have to many quality football players, i think Carlson is gone though, not going to resign him and have that much money locked up in the TE position. I can't wait to see it play out. Go Hawks.

Sounds to me like you are rationalizing a huge loss for the Raiders.  Ask McFadden how he feels and I bet you will get a different opinion.  Miller blocked like a beast for him.

Miller is ranked 10th in yards and scoring, so it's not like we lost an elite player.  And even those yards are because our killer running game opened up the field for him.

He will not finish in the top 10 this year.

He's a genuinely good guy and I wish him well, but his stats will be replaced.  So we end up with a TE that is 12-14th is yards, not that big of a deal.

If we can score Kevin Boss, we'll have similar catching stats and a slightly better run blocker.

Nice to see the addition of another quality player.  My problem is that we need a quality QB to make this work, and as I see it, the only quality QB I see on the roster is Zac Lee.  I hope he can transcend from college to pro quickly, cause he is all we have!!!

Mike Lombardi gets it wrong again! He had previously reported that Miller would resign with the Raiders. As for the team's mass exodus of players....it seems that the players are not sold on Hue Jackson's ability to lead them to the playoffs.

Is it my imagination or are most of the Raiders better players leaving the team once they get the chance via free agency!?! The current Raiders roster is not an improved team when compared to last year's roster. You simply can't replace the loss of asomugha and miller.
