It's sometimes easy to get lost in the maelstrom that is Oakland Raiders football, but tight end Zach Miller was one of the most underrated players at his position during his four-year NFL career. And now he'll take his game some 800 miles north to Seattle where the Seahawks have reached an agreement with the former second-round pick out of Arizona State, the Associated Press is reporting.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweets that the deal is for five years, worth $34 million, and includes $17 million in guarantees.

Miller joins Tarvaris Jackson and Sidney Rice as the newest faces on Seattle's offense, and he'll team up with another young tight end with unlimited potential: John Carlson who, because of injuries, changing schemes and quarterbacks, has seen his reception totals decline in each of his three NFL seasons.

On Monday before Miller had agreed to terms but after it was announced he was visiting Seattle, ESPN.com's Mike Sando detailed the plan for Carlson and the Seahawks' tight ends in 2011: "[New offensive coordinator Darrell] Bevell is implementing an offense similar to the one Mike Holmgren ran in Seattle when Holmgren pushed the team to make Carlson a second-round draft choice. That angle still might come into play, but Carlson isn't the only receiving tight end the Seahawks are considering as they move through the early stages of training camp."

In terms of raw numbers, Miller has 226 career receptions for 2,712 yards and 12 touchdowns, and he hauled in 60 catches for 685 yards (5 TDs) in 2010. Carlson, meanwhile, has 137 receptions for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns, including 31 catches for 318 yards (1 TD) a season ago.

Miller will be reunited with Tom Cable, the new Seattle assistant head coach/offensive line and former Raiders head coach.

In other Seahawks personnel news (via the AP): Defensive end Jimmy Wilkerson has also signed with the team. He spent last season with New Orleans, but his best seasons came in 2008 and 2009 with Tampa Bay when he worked with new Seattle defensive line coach Todd Wash. Wilkerson started a career-high 15 games in 2009 and had career bests in tackles (46) and sacks (6). Wilkerson was the second defensive free agent to reach a deal with Seattle in as many days. The Seahawks brought back cornerback Kelly Jennings on Monday.

Zach Miller is a very good signing. I actually like this better than the Sidney Rice signing. If the Seahawks wanted to trade for Kyle Orton, I think they would now stand an extremely good chance of repeating as NFC West champions. If they stick with Tarvaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst, then those two can't use the excuse that there are no quality people to throw the ball to.

Who is Campbell throwing to anyways? I mean your whole offense is McFadden....not so sure on your assessment of Campbell easily putting up better numbers than either Seachickens QB.

I love this move, it goes well with the moves they have made on the offensive line. Lots of protection and more passing options.

@twiggs I hope your not talking about Jason Campbell being worse then T-Jax. If you are your the one that has no sense. Campbell will easily put up better numbers then either Seachicken qb this year plus the Raiders will have a better year regardless! You guys have no line no rb nd no wr good luck trying to make it to the playoffs with another losing season!

T Jax the worst in the League...cmon man...Umm Delhomme, Campbell, Claussen
not worst in the league, but Campbell worse than him, no. Clausen was a rookie and could still improve and Delhomme HAD a good career, now he is worse than Jackson, but i cant say Jackson is better than Campbell, yes to Clausen, but Clausen could improve. Jackson is better than what the Redskins have too, but anyways, really good signing here. Miller is a really good pass catching tight end, someone mentioned Carlson, but he has been hurt sometimes and it's not a bad thing to have two pass catching tight ends, still not a fan of the Seahawks QBs though, they will compete with Washington for that top pick, along with Buffalo and Denver will likely be there too (though the defense would be the big problem).
I am thinking he is a band aid until we either get Luck or some other free agent worth paying for
how about this, he's a band aid until the Seahawks either get the top pick and get Luck, BUT IF Washington gets the top pick, then he's a band aid for..........Matt Barkley and that makes sense. Barkley was Carroll's recruit, so this would seem to fit best and he would come to a team with good TEs and a good WRs corps.

Checked out John Clayton's twitter page and he made a very curious comment...Perhaps the Hawks are prepared to offer Carlson and a draft pick to the Giants for Osi:) Yeah that would work for me......

Big loss for my Raiders. Zach is a helluva pass-catching TE.

Now, I'm just hoping Oakland can sign Kevin Boss to replace him. Supposedly, Boss has been monitoring the Oakland-Zach situation.

Al had better open his wallet. ..

Why would the 'hawks give a major deal like this to Miller when they already have a good TE in John Carlson?
I know some teams like the Pats have 2 good TE's on the roster and use them both effectively but the difference is the Pats aren't paying big money to both guys like the Hawks now are with Carlson & Miller.
Could it be that Pete & Bevell are looking to do a lot more short passing type plays? I'd say they were going to run the ball more but the 'Hawks don't have great running backs.
Interesting move but again what does this mean for Carlson?

Atleast we didnt overpay for Kolb.

Miller is 1 of the Best TEs in the League. You just have to hope Pete comes to his senses and put t Jackson on a VERY Short Leash!
Whithurst should be starting by week 4 NO DOUBT about it. TJackm is the worst QB in the league hans down.
i would rather have the the Redskins Beck at QB !! For Real LOL!!!!
