Bubba Smith, a two-time Pro Bowler who was one of the stars in the Police Academy movies, was found dead at his home Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Officials tell the paper they believe Smith, 66, died of natural causes.

Smith played for the Colts, Raiders and Oilers from 1967-76, and he made the Pro Bowl in 1970 and 1971 as a defensive end.

But today, he’s probably better remembered for playing Lt. Moses Hightower in the Police Academy movies, as seen below.

Either that or as a spokesman for Miller Lite beer.

Sad to see Bubba Smith go.  He had a smile that made others smile. He bought joy to my life through his play on the field and his parts in movies.

Cool

I have now officially lost two of my heroes within several weeks of one another. First John Mackey and now Bubba Smith. RIP to both and may their memories live on in true Baltimore Colts fans hearts.

The guy was absolutely essential in breaking down the color barrier during his time at MSU.  As a Texas HS football star, no school in Texas would recruit him because of his ethnicity.  MSU welcomed him and many other black athletes from Texas at that time.  Finally, Texas U's would change their outlook on guys like Bubba and began integrating guys like him into their programs...the rest is history and we are ALL better for it that's for sure.  Thank you Bubba.  You were a class act and I am proud to call my self a fellow Spartan.

R.I.P. Bubba. I'll always remember him as Hightower, a character that everyone could like. My 2 favorite characters from the Police Academy have passed on, Hightower and Tackleberry.

Does anyone else remmber this gem of a show from 1984 "Blue Thunder"?  He played a character named Bubba... it also had Dana Carvey and Dick Butkus.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086671

Hell yeah Dallas! Posted the same thing a few hours before you did, but you got me on Dana Carvey!  Never knew he was in it.  I loved that show!
