Bubba Smith, a two-time Pro Bowler who was one of the stars in the Police Academy movies, was found dead at his home Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Officials tell the paper they believe Smith, 66, died of natural causes.

Smith played for the Colts, Raiders and Oilers from 1967-76, and he made the Pro Bowl in 1970 and 1971 as a defensive end.

But today, he’s probably better remembered for playing Lt. Moses Hightower in the Police Academy movies, as seen below.

Either that or as a spokesman for Miller Lite beer.

Bubba was a great guy,  I enjoyed him playing football as well as acting, espescially in Police Academy. He was an awesome football player and ambassador for the game. Bubba you will be missed. RIP.

Met Bubba at Minnapolis airport over Super Bowl Sunday. Had layover due to bad weather. Not a bad thing because all of the former greats were getting off at the time. Got a chance to sit next to him. What a true good guy. Chatted for a long time and was really impressed that he was an ordinary Joe that just loved the game of football and lived life like a champ. God bless, from one of your fans!

Pro Bowler, actor, HERO Bubba Smith dies at 66

1965.  I was 15...attending my first MSU/UM game in Ann Arbor...Bubba Smith virtually tore the head off some poor OT...totally decimated the Wolverine offense single-handedly (well, George Webster got in a couple of bad licks too).  Became a Spartan that day...green ever since.  It'd be way appropriate, I think, for MSU to dedicate this season to one of it's greatest player ambassadors...Bubba Smith.

Go Green!

To me, he'll always be "Spare-Tire", Al Bundy's arch nemesis from high school football. RIP big guy!

Pro Bowler, actor Bubba Smith dies at 66

I met Bubba many years ago at a gym in LA. Wearing a Michigan shirt I heard this deep voice say "not Michigan, not ann arbor!", and turned around to stare up at (and I am 6'4") Bubba wearing a MSU shirt with a big smile on his face. He shook my hand and we talked for a little while, and when I would see him during subsequent workouts he would always be friendly and cheerful. RIP Bubba, we will miss you. The world just lost a really good guy.

RIP Bubba!  Going old school, but I loved him and Dick Butkus in Blue Thunder, the TV show.  Only lasted 11 episodes, but it was a great show!

Sad day. Frown

Pro Bowler, actor Bubba Smith dies at 66

Oh, man, I know we all get old but now I've lost two of my childhood Colts in a short time.  For a real, lifelong fan, it's like losing friends, even those you never met in real life.  I actually shed a few tears when Johnny U died, what, ten years ago(?).  These people we bring into our living rooms, cheer for, pray for success for, cuss at once in a while, they are like our families.  I know lots of guys who call their favorites by their first names and are surprised when you don't know who they're talking about.  Try not to sack St. Peter, Bubba.
