Bubba Smith, a two-time Pro Bowler who was one of the stars in the Police Academy movies, was found dead at his home Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Officials tell the paper they believe Smith, 66, died of natural causes.

Smith played for the Colts, Raiders and Oilers from 1967-76, and he made the Pro Bowl in 1970 and 1971 as a defensive end.

But today, he’s probably better remembered for playing Lt. Moses Hightower in the Police Academy movies, as seen below.

Either that or as a spokesman for Miller Lite beer.

Thank You Bubba Smith

Something the article doesn't mention is that Bubba Smith was a two time All American at DE at Michigan State in 1965 and 1966. At that time Michigan State was a power house in college football. Bubba Smith played in what has been called "The game of the century" in which Michigan State and power house Notre Dame played to a 10-10 tie.

In the pros Bubba Smith continued to be a nightmare to opposing offenses. He was extremely fast on the outside rush and with his height (6'7") was tall for a DE at that time he played, he could easily swat away passes an opposing QB threw. Thanks Bubba Smith for being such a great player and bringing back some great moments in football.

I saw him play, and I remember the ND-Mich. St. game of '66.  Stud player.  A prime example of old Duffy Daugherty getting players from the south before the SEC and ACC and SWC integrated.  He was from Beaumont, TX.  Mich. State had a super defense, plus  George Webster.  State had a cheer, "Kill, Bubba Kill".  Totally politically incorrect, but appropriate.  God rest your soul, Bubba.

Saw him play way back when when the Colts were Baltimore's team.  Size, speed, and meaness.  Off the field he was one of the largest and nicest human beings I ever met.  RIP Bubba.  Thanks for the memories.

Yeah, he liked the easy opening can.
Remember on the Odd Couple, when Felix bought this contemporary furniture. Oscar sat in this weird black chair and said, "I feel like I'm in Bubba Smith's hands."

A lot of today’s players should immolate and follow his example on and off the field.

I think you mean "emulate." (Immolate: to kill as
 a sacrificial victi
m, as by fire; of
fer in sacrifice)

Agree with your post 100% - Bubba Smith was a class act both on and off the field.
