The Steelers franchised linebacker LaMarr Woodely prior to the lockout. Friday morning he tweeted this: "Wanted u 2 hear it here 1st- drafted here... super bowl here.. will retire here!! time 2 get u #7!! @STEELERS 4 LIFE!!"

Translation: the Steelers signed Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million deal. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the contract "includes a $22.5 million bonus and will significantly reduce his previous salary cap number. He was to be on the books for about $10 million in 2010 because of the franchise tag the Steelers applied to him. His new salary cap number could be about half of that."

And a source tells PFT that Woodley will make $18.1 million in 2011, and $27 million over two years making him the second highest-paid player in team history behind quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. (By comparison, James Harrison signed a six-year, $51.7 million contract in 2009.)

Since the lockout ended, Pittsburgh hasn't been as aggressive in free agency as their cross-state counterparts, Philadelphia, but they have been busy rejiggering their roster. They cut Max Starks, Antwaan Randle El and Flozell Adams, and re-signed cornerback Ike Taylor and now Woodley, two key cogs in the league's best defense a year ago.

A former 2007 second-round pick out of Michigan, Woodley has 39 sacks in his NFL career, including 10 in 2010. The Steelers first-round selection in 2007, inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons, is now on the short list of players next in line for a new deal.

One final thought on the Woodley news: Joe Flacco must be psyched.

The Penquins have 3 Stanley Cups.  I thought you would have known that since you appear to be Mr. Expert.  I also suggest you go back and watch SB 40 again.  Everyone of those calls was correct.  It's not the Steelers fault that the Seahawks folded up like a lawn chair under the pressure.

Are you serious! Yes you have the right name (NAFOOTBALL). Football and all that applies to it is not applicable to your knowledge of the game!

TheBurghRules....maybe you'll make "SUPERSTAR" status when you finally quit writing fiction, "the storied history of all the Pittsburgh franchises."  Yeah, kind of like that other Pennsylvania city with all those storied franchises.  The Pirates have the longest streak of
sub-.500 seasons, and the Penguins were doormats for years until the reeled off all of gulp, "2" championships in franchise history!  Oh, I forgot to mention, most teams earn their Super Bowl Championships...instead of getting them handed to them by the referees!!!

I'm glad Woodley is staying with the Steelers, he's a great a great player and is pasionate about his team. The Steelers made the right choice by signing him. They just wouldn't be the same without Woodley on defense.

Infantry. Marine Corp. Desert Storm . M-60 Gunner. Love the Corp and all Soldiers serving or that have served. Especially in the corp as they are picky about who get's in....I just stumbled upon this blog and you all seemed so lame blabbering about nothing instead of doing something important that I thought I would have some fun with you.....Fun had. Nothing you can say will get under my skin because frankly I do not care. But it does seem I got to some of you....So easy....LOL  Steelers fans are so easy to get riled...Good luck this year....You will need it. remember me when your team is done in the first round of the playoffs.  Cool

Wow, Really? As I always say....I love the sorry haters. You provide comic relief in an otherwise nasty world currently being ruined by Obama and other gray matter lacking goofs just like him. Hope your life isn't so long so you don't have to wallow in freakish misery due to the storied history of success of all of the Pittsburgh Sports franchises. It's nice to see you express your love for the marines but I doubt there's a marine out there who would condone your man on man love.
