Merril Hoge took to Twitter earlier this week to share his thoughts on Tim Tebow, NFL quarterback. Hoge, to put it mildly, was unimpressed with what he saw. So, naturally, we talk about it on the podcast.

We think most rational folks would agree that Kyle Orton gives the Broncos the best chance to win now, although Tebow could one day be an NFL starting QB. It's just that the day hasn't arrived yet. So while Hoge's sentiments aren't particularly controversial, the way he delivered them clearly rubbed some people the wrong way, including Tebow. So is that a problem? Or is public criticism part of the implicit deal professional athletes make when they sign lucrative contracts and play on national television every week?

In other news, we discuss the Dolphins' quarterback situation, the Jets' wide receivers situation, and pose the hypothetical question: of the three wideouts, who would you want: Randy Moss, Plaxico Burress or Braylon Edwards?

Talking starts below. (Just hit the play button and don't forget to Subscribe via iTunes.)

Hoge may prove to be right, but I have a problem with someone who is supposed to be a balanced professional using words like "never" when talking about this young man's (or really any human being's) future potential. What the point in doing that? Why not just say he doesn't have the skills? To go to the point of saying that Tebow will NEVER be able to perform in this league seems to reveal a sort of sick pleasure in tearing someone else down. I am no saint...have probably broken about every vow and promise at one time or another in 50 years on this planet. When I read about Tebow, I sometimes wonder what I might have been capable of if I worked a little harder, resisted distractions and believed a little more. My guess is that most people with large egos don't want to go there...because the truth is that most of us should have done more, been greater and helped others more. A lot of this over-the-top negativity on Tebow is from people who don't have the strength of character to admit that they could have made more of themselves if they had been a little more like Tebow. The odds are that Hoge will prove to be right in the long run, but for now I am going to sit back and enjoy seeing this fellow put himself out there in way that makes we wonder, "what if?"

Tim Tebow was only allowed to show a little of his skill last year.  Now jealous retired players pass judgement?  Mr. Hoge, give the kid a chance.

During a game against the Chiefs in Kansas City, Hoge received a  and, five days later, the team doctor approved him to resume playing during a telephone call without examining him to determine if he had recovered; he was still suffering post-concussion symptoms.

Hoge sustained another concussion several weeks later, and had to be resuscitated after he stopped breathing. He spent 48 hours in the and was forced to retire due to brain injury.

Hoge had to learn to read again and experienced memory loss, confusion and headaches. He later sued the Bears team doctor and won a $1.55 million judgment.

I am sorry...were we talking about judgement?  I think so.  Otherwise Merril (Andruw Jones and Gregg Doyel are smiling) will have to give the money back.

Remember, before you tweet or pontificate Merril(l), have an Editor check your opinion because of your memory loss, confusion and headaches.
