Report: DeSean Jackson to end holdout (again)

On Monday we wrote that the Eagles' most explosive player, DeSean Jackson, had reportedly ended his holdout. Five days later and he still hasn't shown up at Lehigh University … but that could change soon.

A source tells Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer that Jackson will report to training camp this Monday.

Jackson has already missed 11 days of camp, presumably because he wants a new contract. He's in the final year of his rookie deal that will pay him $565,000 in 2011. Still, the organization has no interest in talking to Jackson about a new deal until he shows up.

“I think it would be best if DeSean came into camp and focused on being the best player he can be," Eagles president Joe Banner said during a radio appearance earlier this week. "Whether that’s short term or long term, that serves his goal and ours the best.”

Also helping to move things along: if Jackson doesn't report by Tuesday he would forfeit a year toward free agency.

Given all the personnel moves the Eagles have made in recent days, they're clearly gearing up for a 2011 Super Bowl run. They can accomplish the goal without Jackson, but it would be a lot easier with him on the field.

We're guessing the two sides find some common ground in the very near future.

Report: DeSean Jackson to end holdout (again)

Yeah well if you've noticed these Blog comments throughout the site are not posted by NFL players and 100's comment daily.  That's the whole reason for this forum.  For fans and so-called experts like yourself to add your 2 cents.  So your statement reads you wouldn't be saying the same thing if I were an NFL plaer.  Yes actually I would.  I would report to camp then start to negotiate like umm.. Matt Forte of the Bears.  He's making 500k and reported to camp then stated that obvious.  So without walking a mile in the shoes of NFL players I will speak on the issues.  Thansk for reading-

You wouldn't be saying the same thing if you were an NFL player. Until you walk a mile in their shoes, don't speak on their issues.

Hey DeSean report to camp then negotiate.  I hope Mr. Jackson is ready to practice and doesn't come up lame in day 2 of warmups.  I guess you don't realize that it's harder to negotiate when your not there.  Get your butt to camp.

Bout time DeSean. I know he's not happy about his current contract and salary. But honestly, how many of us at work overachieve or do more then we are required. Does that give us the right to say, "I'm not coming to work unless you pay me more" Not a chance.  I know my analogy of this matter is like comparing apples to oranges, but I'm just using an example.

I wish players would honor a contract that they signed, period.  In reality he has accomplished nothing other then to be fined heavily and proabably forfeited so far about 1/3 of this years salary, not smart.  He probably would have been better off coming to camp and showing what he can do with a positive attitude.

Terrell Owens screwed us already over a signed contract and I'm just hoping that the situation does not repeat itself with DeSean.

Report: DeSean Jackson to end holdout (again)

he's showing up Monday because if he doesn't he'll be forfeiting his season and will be in the exact same spot again next year. He has missed 11 days @ $30K/day for what??? He gained nothing and nothing is different. He just cost his team some time and his teammates. On the other hand he has given some other guys time to shine so they can see how well off they are without him. Stupid is as stupid does but he'll get paid anyway.
