All along, WR Steve Smith wanted to land a new contract with the Giants. He said so in July 2010 when, after catching a franchise-record 107 passes, he said he should be given a raise on his $550,000 salary. He thought so last March, claiming that the Giants had told him they’d take care of him.

Evidently, the Giants had a different idea about Smith’s value. And probably when he'd be healthy again.

And so, the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane was the first to report that the Eagles surprisingly have signed Smith to a one-year deal, giving the so-called Dream Team yet another talented piece. The Newark Star Ledger's Mike Garafolo reports that the contract is a one-year, $4 million deal (with $2 million guaranteed).

On his Facebook page, Smith wrote that Philadelphia showed him plenty of love (the bold below is mine):

"I will always cherish my time in NY and the super bowl victory.. This was obviously not an easy decision for me or something i ever expected but unfortunately the business aspect proved that the eagles wanted me to be part of their organization MUCH more than the Giants did.. A special thanks to my WR buddies, coach Gilbride, all of u amazing fans on here, and the entire giants organization for drafting me.. Time for a new beginning..."

He also told reporters on a conference call Wednesday that he thought he was "close" to returning to action.

Steve Smith's Eagles signing
The problem with Smith throughout his four-year career is that he’s been injury prone, particularly last season when he played only nine games after suffering a pectoral injury and then a knee injury that required the dreaded microfracture surgery.

The Giants were cautious to re-sign Smith because of that knee injury and the surgery and because Smith won't be available to start the season on the field.

Instead, Smith will get a chance to revitalize his career with Philadelphia, which has been having holdout issues with DeSean Jackson and illness issues with Jeremy Maclin (though McLane's source said the move had nothing to do with Maclin's health).

Said coach Andy Reid in a statement released by the team: "He's a Pro Bowl quality receiver that we will work into our offense as soon as he is ready to go."

Are the Eagles insane? If I was DeSean and the signed Smith to 4 Million for one year and they are not close to a Deal with me, I would be leaving Philly as soon as my contract was up. This is a slap in the face to Jackson ( unless they are about to extend his contract with more money than Smith). I have been an Eagles' Fan for over 30 years, but this is no way to treat on of your star players.

"...enter the Playoffs with a bloody LETHAL WR corps"

Even the best receivers wouldn't help when teams force Vick to run to his right and throw across his body.  For further evidence, see 2010 playoffs, Wildcard Round.

That's how you make a diva like Jackson shut his mouth, by signing the injured Smith for four times the pay.

Either the Giant's front office are a bunch of liars telling their players they will get rewarded or taken care of, or these players are a bunch of liars over the past couple of years.

The players havev an obligation to live up to their contract, but if the front office makes the player get a warm and fuzzy, then doesn't come through, the player should give the one finger salute and sign with another team.

What in the heck is going on with the Giants front office?  Bye Boss, Bye Smith.  Do they know Ccotchery's number - if not they better find it

There are Bigger or MORE Meaningful reasons for signing S. Smith but he is definitely not an upgrade UNLESS a disgruntled D Jax or Maclin aren't planning on being on the field for the beginning of the season.

OK, I have read it. My opinion still has not changed. I never said they were in CAP violation, did I?  I did say that 9 players make up 53% of there CAP room. Is this untrue? Perhaps when you adjust the CAP to the 125Mil range which I was unaware of admittedly. I also said that their CAP numbers will increase next year which I stand by.  I just don’t see any of the other players outside this Core group taking pay cuts. I also realize that some of these FA’s are not signed for next year. As for your listing of “Bodies” you do realize that Jenkins, Young, and Babin are part of the 53% of CAP, which leaves your point a little shy with Ryan Harris, DRC, Ronnie Brown and an injured Steve Smith. You can pencil in solid performers such as Peters, Celek, and Avant Oh, I never mentioned the 2012 draft either.  Yes, the Eagles really improved themselves with starters based on the history of these players, but in looking at their depth charts, I don’t see the depth.  What I do not get, is how anyone can think that less than 20% of a TEAM earning over 50% of salary in any given year or sport is a good thing, I simply pointed out it will lead to dissention and you can bet your last pair of panties that is exactly what will happen, ask DeSean this year and McCoy next year. As for Vick…… if he were to have an MVP type year, he will bolt Philly in a heartbeat, do not think he is loyal to anyone.  Here is a link to the current and projected salaries.

It's funny to read the worthless garbage here. It's like NO-ONE reads the article, and then spouts off with an opinion. You can really see the below average intellect of the average CBS poster. There are so many points that many 'argue' about, that don't even exist in the artcile. It's hilarious!!!
