McNabb brings out the best in Romanowski

B. Romanowski ripped D. McNabb (Getty).Posted by Josh Katzowitz

Apparently, the quantity of people (if not the quality) who decide to spew vile all over Vikings QB Donovan McNabb continues to grow.

You remember Bill Romanowski, right? He was a two-time Pro Bowler, but he was also a jerk, kicking opponents in the head, spitting in other people’s faces and ending a teammate’s career by blasting his eye socket. So, good dude, right?

And it makes him the perfect person to comment on somebody with whom he never played, right? Right? Hello?

Either way, Romanowski was on Jim Rome’s radio show today and, well, he acted just like you’d expect -- he did his best Bernard Hopkins impersonation and ripped the hell out of McNabb for, as far as I can tell, no reason at all.

“The reason why Donovan McNabb is not in Washington right now is because he was lazy,” Romanowski said, via PFT.com. “He didn’t spend the time. Mike Shanahan likes guys who will work really hard. I narrow it down to two things. He’s either lazy, or he’s not very bright to pick up the offense. One or the other. I think he’s bright enough, I just think he was lazy.”

And, just for the hell of it, Rome asked how Romanowski would act around Broncos QB Tim Tebow?

“I would want to lay him out and put him into next year,” Romanowski said. “I’d have him so messed up mentally he’d be like, ‘Oh, God, this Romanowski is crazy.’”

Um, crazy wasn’t the word I was thinking about.

OK so all of your adjectives to describe this has been were correct but why did you forget or just not mention the biggest one, his use of PEDs?  With all the crap that he did in his career it's a wonder Rome had him on his show, which is a good reason why I don't watch the jerk's show, except that he was hoping he would say something stupid, and he did.  Good to know he's still tough enough (and probably still on drugs) to put Tibow into next year?  Why, what the hell did he ever do to you, what risk to your career is he now?  You were nothing but hype when you played, and now you're the same thing.  One more thing, if Mike only wanted players who "really work hard", how come you ONLY made the Pro Bowl twice, guess you didn't try hard enough huh.

Jerry Springer is a Democrat, so there would be no need for him to rip McNabb,

McNabb brings out the best in Romanowski

McNabb threw for 357 yards in SB 39, against a team that had access to his signals.  What more do you need to say.  He also threw for 357 yards on the road against the SB champ last season.  Except Washington won that game.  How often does a QB throw for 357 yards against the #5 passing defense?  And how often is he dismissed as being washed up?

Is this really worth reporting?  People like Josh Katzowitz need to be ripped for reporting such garbage.  Maybe CBS Sports should contact Jerry Springer and see what he has to say about Mcnabb.

McNabb had a low int rate and a high average per rush, but those came with a price tag.  He never threw the ball away, but he got sacked more.  He never slid, and got hit more.  He averaged 12 starts per season with the Eagles, out of a 16 game schedule.  His only great WR was Owens, and he made the Pro Bowl even when he didn't have Owens.  He was also helped out by Brian Westbrook, as was demonstrated by his absense in the 2004 NFC title game.  He wouldn't look for his 2nd or 3rd receiver, because he never had one that could catch the ball.

Although the only person with less credibility (and class) than Romo is perhaps Bernie Madoff, I don't think he is completely off base here. If Merril Hodge or Ron Jaworski made the comments would the reaction be any different? I say YES!

Donovan McNabb has had a solid career. I DON'T believe he is Hall of Fame caliber, but he was a legitimate top tier QB. I emphasize WAS. Maybe he has lost the passion for the game, maybe a lack of motivation, maybe he was upset that the Redskins were no where near a Super Bowl and mailed it in. Either way, he clearly underperformed last season. The question is why?

Hopefully Donovan has a comeback year in Minnesota, where the talent around him is much better and he no longer has to carry the team. That would go a long way in ending all of this speculation. Until then, I think the question Romo has raised is legit.

McNabb is #22 on the all time list for passing TDs with 230.  Not too shabby.  With one very good or two mediocre years, he climbs into the top 10.  Romanowski doesn't get to even sniff this this level.  He may be #1 or 2 in loogies spat on opponents, but that's about it.  He should shut his chemically enhanced piehole already and thank GOD that today's NFL screening program was not in place when he was cheating his way through a career.
