John Fox on Tim Tebow: 'A work in progress'

The quarterback stats from Thursday night's tilt in Dallas between the Cowboys and Broncos could lead you to believe that Tim Tebow is working his way up the depth chart and into the veteran-favoring heart of John Fox.

Not so fast my friend -- Fox quickly dismissed any notion that Kyle Orton wasn't running the show in Denver by calling Tebow a "work in progress."

"Quarterbacking-wise, I thought Kyle was sharp and I thought Tim is a work in progress," Fox said, per the Denver Post. "[Tebow] made some things happen. He's learning, and I thought Brady [Quinn] stepped in and did a decent job, scored some points to take the lead."

As Ryan and I note in our AFC West podcast preview, when you're being compared to unfavorably to Brady Quinn, well, things aren't going as well as the stats might indicate.

And as I've said over and over again, this is John Fox team. He's not exactly inclined to start younger quarterbacks, because he prefers not to see ridiculous mistakes that put his defense in a bad position.

It's highly unlikely that Tebow starts the season (dependent on an Orton injury, really) and it's even less likely that he sees meaningful action during the season as long as the Broncos are in contention, regardless of how many six-for-seven, 90-yard games he puts up during the preseason.

Cam Newton will be the best QB to ever play in the NFL when all is said in done
I thought Bus Cook was Newton's agent. So what are you doing here, Drew Rosenhaus?

John Fox on Tim Tebow: 'A work in progress'

Yea how many games did they win with orton last year??????? O but yet hes the number 1 with having what 3 wins under his belt last year, sounds like a savy veteran to me. I love how everyone just continues to bash on tebow no matter what, yes hes gonna make mistakes. 1- it was first preseason game it happens 2- its his second year from trying to make a huge transition so just give him time.
I do think Orton should start but he should be workign with Tebow to make him better help him with the reads and give him the tools he needs to becvome a better QB because thats what a team does yes they are working for the same job but still if you cant get points in teh re zone in 4 plays why are you in Orton????

Denver had no business drafting Tebow last April. Not when you have a good quarterback, yes, Orton. Now Fox is left to deal with this mess. Its clear Denver can win games with Orton at the helm because he understands how to play at this level. The only way a team should of aquired  Tebow is if you were commited to building your offense around his skill set. The kids a leader and he does have NFL type talent, but hes on the wrong team. Denver is correct now in not letting the problem get worse by starting Orton. Wake up Denver fans, Orton is your best option whether you like your golden boy Tebow or not!

Wow what an incredibly stupid statement.  Where you caught up in the cheating scandal at the Naval Academy?  Must have,  no way a REAL academy grad would run his mouth without some sort of back-up facts.

Too bad you have to represent the USN with such a stupid statement.  Can't you log in under your Janitor's Rule login?
