NFL postpones supplemental draft, Pryor benefits

The NFL notified all 32 teams Tuesday that the supplemental draft, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed. No new date has been set.

During a normal offseason, such news would be met with a yawn -- if that -- by most fans, but this year is different. For starters, we've just endured a four-month lockout, which pushed the supplemental draft back from its usual mid-July date on the NFL schedule to the middle of August. But there's also the matter of one name trying desperately to be eligible for this year's supplemental draft: Terrelle Pryor.

Quick refresher for those of you just back from Mars: Pryor promptly left Ohio State in June amid a scandal that cost Jim Tressel his job. He then hired superagent Drew Rosenhaus, who convened a PR event and called it a press conference to inform the world that Pryor was a first-round pick (among other things). Pryor later admitted that he didn't care where he was drafted just, he just wanted an opportunity.

As things seemed to be falling into place (several teams had expressed interest in the former Ohio State QB), Pryor last week had to cancel his pro day because he wasn't on the NFL's supplemental draft list.

CBSSports.com's Will Brinson explained at the time that, "This uncertainty for Pryor actually is in line with all the reports we've heard since he decided to bounce out of Ohio State after their program got a not-so-friendly visit from the NCAA. In fact, that aforementioned visit probably has a lot to do with the NFL's decision -- they don't want to grant eligibility to someone who doesn't actually meet the requirements for the supplemental draft."

On Sunday, reports surfaced that Pryor was trying to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to determine his standing in the eyes of the league. As Brinson noted in his post, a statement from Pryor's attorney, David Cornwell, made it sound like Pryor would be eligible for the draft.

"We have been in discussions with the Commissioner’s office over the past week to address the NFL's concerns," Cornwell wrote. "I am confident that once the NFL has a full understanding of the facts, Terrelle will be part of Wednesday’s supplemental draft."

Well, there will be no supplemental draft on Wednesday, but whenever it's rescheduled, it seems that Pryor might now be apart of it.

Wow, way to inflate this guys ego even more.  Now, not only has he brought down a top 5 school and thumbed his nose at the NCAA, but he has also made the NFL change its policies.  Next he will part the seas, end all war, bring some sanity to Carlos Zambrano, and, if he has some free time, maybe solve the NBA lockout.

Just let him in the bloody draft so some poor sap of a team can finally prove that this guy, with his exceptional talents, is nothing more than a prima dona with a god complex.

Tressell did it, we know that the ALL POWERFUL, ALL KNOWING,  The Ohio State University reached into their bag of tricks and had the NFL cancel the supplemental draft, to ensure that Mr. Pryor has the opportunity to be drafted.

gopack, the reason why he cannot just walk on to a team of his choosing is that he is NOT an Undrafted Free Agent. To be a UFA you have to have the opportunity to be selected i.e. be in the draft, which he has not. Obivously, if he goes undrafted in the supplemental draft (which if the teams have any sense they will ensure that he will do so) only then can he walk onto any team he likes. Its got nothing to do with money.

Pryor has never been a thug.  He's simply immature.  Lot of talent.  He might make it.

Why does he need the supplemental draft anyway?  Can't he just walk on with the team of his choosing?  I mean you always hear about guys that went undrafted and made the team as a walk on.
Why can't he do the same.  If he is that damn good then he shouldn't have any worries.
Oh, I know the answer now.  MONEY.  OK I get it.

Here we go, the NFL is already feeding Cryor with a baby spoon. Its simple, he made a real bad mistake in college, ruined a good coaches career, walked out on the team, and walk right into a NFL payday.

Please God, please, please, please, don't allow the Miami Dolphins to draft Pryor.  If Drew Rosenhaus is in the house, who knows how hard he has been working Dolphins' management to show them how great Pryor is with the promise of a "team friendly" deal.  The Dolphins are so hungry for a quarterback that I can feel the words "The first pick in the first round of the supplemental draft, the Miami Dolphins choose Terrelle Pryor from the Ohio Sstate University."  Oh nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

I don't care if it is one dollar, the bum should not earn a dime and have to wait for his first year. Let him work like a honest man first
