Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

Eli Manning should plan to take plenty of hits (and jabs and uppercuts and left hooks to the body and right hooks to the face) for responding to a question this way about who else he would put in QB Tom Brady’s class:

"I consider myself in that class," Manning said on New York’s ESPN 1050. "And Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he's a great player and what you've seen with him is he's gotten better every year. He started off winning championships and I think he's a better quarterback now than what he was, in all honesty, when he was winning those championships.

"I think now he's grown up and gotten better every year and that's what I'm trying to do. I kind of hope these next seven years of my quarterback days are my best."

So, Manning probably will get slammed, because clearly Manning is nowhere near Brady’s class. You don’t need to break down film for a living to see that.

But other than that, I like Manning’s comments. He’s known as a guy who doesn’t say much of anything interesting to the media, so this (still relatively milquetoast) quote actually represents something special for Manning. He’s saying something relatively intriguing. The scribes who cover him should love that.

Also, if you’re a Giants fan, would you really not want your team’s quarterback to believe he’s one of the best? If Manning responded to the question in this way, “Well, you’ve got Brady and my brother and Ben Roethlisberger and etc.” and never mentioned himself, wouldn’t that be a cause for concern?

Initially, when I read this report, I planned to mock Manning. But that’s the wrong reaction. Even if he’s not a top-five quarterback right now -- and might not ever be -- I like that he thinks he is.

And even if he isn’t, isn’t he one of the best QBs who also played a fake cop on a commercial with a kick-ass fu manchu? I don’t think there’s any question about that.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

When someone says trust me, you can't trust them, when they say they are classy, they usually have no class, and when a player has to tell people he is as good as another player they aren't.  You never here payton or tom talking about how good they are because they know it and so does everyone else.  the saying is you tell a lie long enought people start beleiving it.  players that say they are as good as other players (excluding contract talks) are trying to talk themselves and everyone else into beleiving it.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

I agree. Eli is in the same class as Brady...Quinn. Or did he meant the "over the hill" Tom Brady? He certainly cannot be talking about the Tom Brady who won 3 Super Bowls. Anyway, I wonder if San Diego still regrets not drafting him. It's really been a toss-up between Philip Rivers and Manning. But at least Manning has played and won at least one Super Bowl. Philips "Cry Me A" Rivers has not even done that much.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

My favorite Eli Manning game was the 7 overtime Ole Miss loss at home against Arkansas when Eli was outgunned by Matt Jones in a 58-56 thriller.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

First what do you want him to say, " That guy is great, I'm just good"? That would be great for all his teammates that are supposed to go through hell for him. They don't want to follow a guy who thinks they suck. He did what he has to do but more important what he should do. Eli has always been the butt of many jokes while having a pretty good career and winning a superbowl vs none other then the great Tom Brady!
I know number wise Brady is far better but what do you expect, he has the better system. Matt Cassell Stepped in and won 11 games, that proves its the system. You might try to say he did good last year in KC but yea his Off Cord Was an old New England guy with the same system. I wouldnt be surprised to see his numbers go back to earth. Bradys coaching staffs have been some of the best ever created, Eli not so much. Also Brady's off line has been consistebtly great for most of his career while Eli's has been good. Stat wise yea of course Brady but both are worth while QB's.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

Okay, so wins by a QB are a QB accomplishment and Team passing yards are a Team accomplishment.  It's hard to argue when you put it that way?  Undecided

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

Thank you Eli I can't stop laughing!!! That is the best joke I have heard in a long time. Got to love Eli's stupidity. You are not even a top !0 QB. let alone put in the same class as Brady. You maybe as good as Big Ben but no way in the top 7 class not even close.

Hilarious. They get paid about the same salary and both play QB, but that's where the similarities end.  Brady's headed to the HOF.  Manning minor's headed to the Hall of Guys Who Look Like Their Daddy Married his Sister.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

Okay Eli Manning is not as good of a QB as Tom Brady. Everyone in the world except the Manning Family and a die hard Giants fan would take Tom Brady over Eli Manning.

But I do respect Eli for saying that he is in Tom Brady's class and why not?  They both have Super Bowl rings and last time I checked Eli Manning's team beat Tom Brady's team in Super Bowl XLII. So why shouldn't Eli feel he is in Brady's class. When they played head to head in the biggest game of the year Eli was the one holding up the trophy beating the undefeated Patriots.

So people can make fun of Eli all they want but the guy has a Super Bowl ring which is more then a lot of great NFL HOF players can say. And Eli did play a great game in that Super Bowl so don't say it was all the defense because it wasn't. Big players make big plays in the Super Bowl and Manning did.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

I don't think there is a comparison personally.  To my knowledge Eli doesn't have illegitimate children, and is much more active in helping his community with both time and money instead of grandstanding on Entourage or jet-setting around.  Sure Brady is the better quarterback, but without a doubt, Eli is the better man.
