Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

Eli Manning should plan to take plenty of hits (and jabs and uppercuts and left hooks to the body and right hooks to the face) for responding to a question this way about who else he would put in QB Tom Brady’s class:

"I consider myself in that class," Manning said on New York’s ESPN 1050. "And Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he's a great player and what you've seen with him is he's gotten better every year. He started off winning championships and I think he's a better quarterback now than what he was, in all honesty, when he was winning those championships.

"I think now he's grown up and gotten better every year and that's what I'm trying to do. I kind of hope these next seven years of my quarterback days are my best."

So, Manning probably will get slammed, because clearly Manning is nowhere near Brady’s class. You don’t need to break down film for a living to see that.

But other than that, I like Manning’s comments. He’s known as a guy who doesn’t say much of anything interesting to the media, so this (still relatively milquetoast) quote actually represents something special for Manning. He’s saying something relatively intriguing. The scribes who cover him should love that.

Also, if you’re a Giants fan, would you really not want your team’s quarterback to believe he’s one of the best? If Manning responded to the question in this way, “Well, you’ve got Brady and my brother and Ben Roethlisberger and etc.” and never mentioned himself, wouldn’t that be a cause for concern?

Initially, when I read this report, I planned to mock Manning. But that’s the wrong reaction. Even if he’s not a top-five quarterback right now -- and might not ever be -- I like that he thinks he is.

And even if he isn’t, isn’t he one of the best QBs who also played a fake cop on a commercial with a kick-ass fu manchu? I don’t think there’s any question about that.

Ben is the first QB to WIN two Super Bowls in his short career. Rookie of the year and also CRUSHED the jets in last years Championship game. Ben has been ACCUSED, but thats a long way from CONVICTED. And Sanchez supposedly hooked up with a 17 year old after cying about how the STEELERS beat his ass! Plus Tomlin is a better coach than Tyranasorous REX!

Eli is OK. He is the top QB in the NY area. Sanchez can just barely can manage a game. But for my money, Big Ben is the best.

KCArrowhead, I'm using the stat that CBS uses to compare passing games.  CBS uses yards passing per game to compare both offenses and defenses.  If you look at the top of a team's page, they'll rank the offense and the defense using yards.  They'll break them into rushing and passing, using yards.  It sounds as though you feel as though they should use rushing yards and QB rating.  Please take this issue up with CBS and every other media outlet that uses yards passing as a yardstick.  This statistic does not favor Brady, and therefore, it must not be valid.

Also, how dare I use a stat from the most recent completed season?  Really?  Do I need to explain why the 2010 season is currently more relevant than the 2009 season?  Once again, I think this is an issue you need to take up with every single media outlet that covers the NFL.

But at least we agree that wins are not a QB thing.  I'm not sure why you thought I was equating a QB to a pitcher...  I was simply trying to think of an example in a team sport where a single player was credited with a win and a loss.  Do I need to explain to you which statistics are kept track of in which sports?  Do you understand the lower bound theorem?  Do you understand anything other than how to dismiss opinions as "homers" and/or "haters?"  I will overlook the spelling errors.

Brian8ball, if you're going to be dumb enough to correct someone's grammar, don't you think you ought to get it right yourself?

It's "They're" not "their".
Oh... gasp... bwahahaha!!!!

I admit to being a closet grammar nazi - by which, I mean I either laugh or cringe at much of the atrocious spelling and grammar found on blogs web-wide, but refrain from commenting on it.  But the times I do comment on others deficiencies is when they play the grammar nazi and fail themselves.  It's just too good to pass up.

And when it is a rather unhinged poster to boot - sweet.

Rules Screwballs live by.......

Uh, oh. Watch out, we are all subject to "The 5 Steps Of Screwball's Idiot Guide For Message Posting".  (another poster came up with these, I think they are great)
First he will, 1) Insult you and the team you root for, 2) Judge you based on where you live according to you profile, 3) Tells you how sucessful he is, hahaha!! 4) Follow up with grade school profanity and name calling, 5) And lastly finish with a pathetic display to prove how tough he believes he is with implied threats and the typical challenge of a face to face encounter.
That's the best!

there no good and there trash

it is their not there
I love reading these emotional rants.  But I have to say this ridiculous thing is my favorite on this thread.

Brian8ball, if you're going to be dumb enough to correct someone's grammar, don't you think you ought to get it right yourself?

What a joke.  Kind of like saying a team has 6 playoff losses in 4 seasons.  Pretty sure the league didn't institute some double elimination rule that everyone forgot about.  Or saying the Jets intercepted Brady twice in their last game, when they, you know, didn't.

I don't like either team.  Don't really dislike either one much either.  But it kills me when clowns try to quote facts and can't even get those right.

But hey, even if no one bothered to point out that your stats are FUBAR, they still knew you were off your rocker when you claimed Rex Ryan doesn't look like a bum.  He's a pathetic excuse for a person and the poster boy for slobs.
