Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

Eli Manning should plan to take plenty of hits (and jabs and uppercuts and left hooks to the body and right hooks to the face) for responding to a question this way about who else he would put in QB Tom Brady’s class:

"I consider myself in that class," Manning said on New York’s ESPN 1050. "And Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he's a great player and what you've seen with him is he's gotten better every year. He started off winning championships and I think he's a better quarterback now than what he was, in all honesty, when he was winning those championships.

"I think now he's grown up and gotten better every year and that's what I'm trying to do. I kind of hope these next seven years of my quarterback days are my best."

So, Manning probably will get slammed, because clearly Manning is nowhere near Brady’s class. You don’t need to break down film for a living to see that.

But other than that, I like Manning’s comments. He’s known as a guy who doesn’t say much of anything interesting to the media, so this (still relatively milquetoast) quote actually represents something special for Manning. He’s saying something relatively intriguing. The scribes who cover him should love that.

Also, if you’re a Giants fan, would you really not want your team’s quarterback to believe he’s one of the best? If Manning responded to the question in this way, “Well, you’ve got Brady and my brother and Ben Roethlisberger and etc.” and never mentioned himself, wouldn’t that be a cause for concern?

Initially, when I read this report, I planned to mock Manning. But that’s the wrong reaction. Even if he’s not a top-five quarterback right now -- and might not ever be -- I like that he thinks he is.

And even if he isn’t, isn’t he one of the best QBs who also played a fake cop on a commercial with a kick-ass fu manchu? I don’t think there’s any question about that.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

First off I would take Cassell over Eli everyday, Eli is not even a top ten and Elis stats would not even be close if he was with the stats. He threw 25 picks last year, that is something Brady does not do. Look at the stats, its not even close, you are actually a complete moron of you have talked yourself into believing anything you just wrote.

Where has Eli shown that he is clutch, his one SB run where of Assante samuel catches the gift of a pick that Eli layed up there for him, or if some no name mut makes a miraculous catch . Was that the Superbowl in which his defense carried him.

Eli is not even a top ten QB now and Brady is arguably one of the best ever but you think Eli is not far off, It is laughable. look at the list and its easy to find 10 better today that are better than ELi. Brees, Mannning, Brady, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Vick, Matt schaub, Matt Ryan, Flaco, Rodgers, Romo. There are more guys I would put ahead of him but they have not been around long enough for me to put ahead of him.(Bradford and Freeman)

Eli has had as talented guys in his offense as Brady has ever had.

Eli's Career passer rating 80, Bradys is 95. Brady has the same amountof picks in all seasons after 2006 as Eli had last year.

Bradys career pass attempts 4700 and 103 INT's and eli 3300 and 113 Int's.

Brady TD to INT ratio is 261 Tds to 101 Ints

Eli Manning 156 Tds to 113 Ints

Bradys Career Passer completion Percentage is 63.6 and Elis is 58, that is a huge difference.

Brady has done it year in and year out. Brady has shown he has the abilty to keep his team in any game and win it in the end.

People who say that Matt Casell going 11-5 proved something about Brady are idiots. Brady went 16-0 with that same core of talent in 2007, that is 5 wins more. If any Backup comes in and wins five less games you would consider that team a complete failure. You guys act like Casell is a bad QB now when his passer rating is higher than Elis.

Eli would not have one SB if he played for the Patriots. Its actually a pretty dumb conversation.

One thing I want to make clear is that I have no problem with Eli saying what he said, hes an NFL QB and what would you want or expect a SB winning starting QB making the money he makes to say. Should he say oh think I am avg qb. If said something along those lines he would be getting more grief than he is now.  My reply is more towards the retards that say Eli was not far off with his comments.

BRADY NEVER KILLS HIS TEAMS CHANCE AT WINNING AND THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE CASE AND THAT IS WHAT SEPARATES HIM FROM MOST QB's
I stopped reading at "Cassells over Eli" - I prefer to read comments by those who at least know something about football.

Eli and the Giants beat Brady and the undefeated pats in the Super Bowl....that right there gives Eli at least the consideration.

And Payton only has one ring himself...go figure.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

My favorite Eli Manning game was the 7 overtime Ole Miss loss at home against Arkansas when Eli was outgunned by Matt Jones in a 58-56 thriller.
I wouldn't say Jones outgunned him (or anyone), but he did run well in that game.  I have always wondered how much coke Jones was snorting in between overtimes in that game.  At one point he tried to snort the 30 yard line.

Eli put down the bowl, and get some help! Last time I saw Brady throw the ball I didn't yell out DUCK SEASON, like when you put the pigskin in the air!

Delusions of grandure! Next thing he'll say is his wife is hotter than Brady's!

PS someone wake up Jerry Reese the season starts in a few weeks!

GO COWBOYS!

When did winning become a QB thing and passing yards become a team thing?  In baseball, Wins are an official stat for pitchers, but everyone knows that a pitcher with more innings per start and a lower era is better than a pitcher with more wins.  Why is this not analagous to football?

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

David0613, It's ironic that you called the question dumb and slammed the reporter when you don't have a clue which QB Manning was even being interviewed.  Unless you seriously consider Eli Manning one of the two dominant QBs of his era and a 1st ballot HOFer.  If that's true, you're alone out there in fantasy land, because the people in the real world consider Peyton Manning, not Eli, to be that guy.

NE_DOMINANCE Do you play fantasy football? Cuz if you'd take Matt Casell over Eli you'd be easy pickings.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

The Patriots offensive system made Matt Cassel look like Tom Brady in the year he took them to double digit wins.  So I really don't think Eli's opinion is that far off.  If Eli played in the Pats system, his stats would be very similiar......

Merrlen, same thing I took away from his comments.  Add in that he also won a Super Bowl early, and it makes a lot more sense than how people are taking it ("I'm as good as Brady").

Anyway, I wonder if San Diego still regrets not drafting him.
Doubtful, since they, you know, DID draft him.  They traded him for Philip Rivers and draft picks that turned out to be Shawne Merriman and Nate Kaeding.
