Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

Eli Manning should plan to take plenty of hits (and jabs and uppercuts and left hooks to the body and right hooks to the face) for responding to a question this way about who else he would put in QB Tom Brady’s class:

"I consider myself in that class," Manning said on New York’s ESPN 1050. "And Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he's a great player and what you've seen with him is he's gotten better every year. He started off winning championships and I think he's a better quarterback now than what he was, in all honesty, when he was winning those championships.

"I think now he's grown up and gotten better every year and that's what I'm trying to do. I kind of hope these next seven years of my quarterback days are my best."

So, Manning probably will get slammed, because clearly Manning is nowhere near Brady’s class. You don’t need to break down film for a living to see that.

But other than that, I like Manning’s comments. He’s known as a guy who doesn’t say much of anything interesting to the media, so this (still relatively milquetoast) quote actually represents something special for Manning. He’s saying something relatively intriguing. The scribes who cover him should love that.

Also, if you’re a Giants fan, would you really not want your team’s quarterback to believe he’s one of the best? If Manning responded to the question in this way, “Well, you’ve got Brady and my brother and Ben Roethlisberger and etc.” and never mentioned himself, wouldn’t that be a cause for concern?

Initially, when I read this report, I planned to mock Manning. But that’s the wrong reaction. Even if he’s not a top-five quarterback right now -- and might not ever be -- I like that he thinks he is.

And even if he isn’t, isn’t he one of the best QBs who also played a fake cop on a commercial with a kick-ass fu manchu? I don’t think there’s any question about that.

You're welcome.  Except, er, you forgot one thing.  No one asked Manning if the Giants' passing game (which consists of much more than the QB) was better than the Patriots'.  Why not stick to comparing apples to apples?

Sounds like misconstrued comments. What I got from the story is that Manning thinks/is improving every year which is what Brady is doing supposedly. Non story being blown out of proportion by the media.

If Manning responded to the question in this way, “Well, you’ve got Brady and my brother and and etc.”

Am I the only one who thinks Big Ben also doesn't deserve to be mentioned in that class?  Yeah, he's a good QB.  Yeah, he has his rings (ahem, on the backs of the Steelers' D) But other than his size, I really don't see anything especially great about Roethlisberber.

What Eli should have said:

My brother & Tom are in a class by themselves, however there are a lot of good qb's out there, including myself who are not afraid to battle them.  Infact we look forward to beating them.

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

That about sums it all up the best.....say what you want about Eli...no he's not AS great a QB as Brady and probably never will be, however, he and the Giants were victorious in probably THE BEST SB win of all time, and HE drove his team down the field to win it.
Plus:......

Eli & Joe Namith (that other famous ny qb who won a superbowl that he was not excpected to) can now hang out together, wearing their pantyhoses, drinking beer, & hitting on sideline reporters.

Well, glad he thinks so.  Too many hits without his helmet is my guess.

Is this really any different than Suh saying the Lions will go 16-0 this season? The press sticks a microphone in your face and you get tired of repeating the cliches.

I'm glad Eli said what he did. If he didn't say he was in the elite class, he would have been slammed, too. The only thing he could have said that would please most people is "I don't sit around and classify QBs. Isn't that what y'all are supposed to do? As for me, I think players should let their careers speak for themselves."

Eli thinks he's in Brady's class ... good for him

But I do respect Eli for saying that he is in Tom Brady's class and why not?  They both have Super Bowl rings and last time I checked Eli Manning's team beat Tom Brady's team in Super Bowl XLII. So why shouldn't Eli feel he is in Brady's class. When they played head to head in the biggest game of the year Eli was the one holding up the trophy beating the undefeated Patriots.

So people can make fun of Eli all they want but the guy has a Super Bowl ring which is more then a lot of great NFL HOF players can say. And Eli did play a great game in that Super Bowl so don't say it was all the defense because it wasn't. Big players make big plays in the Super Bowl and Manning did.

That about sums it all up the best.....say what you want about Eli...no he's not AS great a QB as Brady and probably never will be, however, he and the Giants were victorious in probably THE BEST SB win of all time, and HE drove his team down the field to win it.
Plus:......

He's got more money than any of us will ever sniff in our lifetime.
He's got a SB ring.
He's from a solid petigree of NFL players.

So you all can laugh your @sses off but it's good to have a qb with at least that much confidence.
