For his helmet-popping hit on Bengals QB Andy Dalton in the Lions first preseason game, Lions DT Ndamukong Suh has been fined $20,000. We think.

There’s been no official confirmation by the NFL, but judging by Suh’s Twitter update, it seems to be so.

Quoth the Suh: $20,000REALLY???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #NFL #BIGFAIL"

Though the hit didn’t appear dirty, the league will almost always come down on the side of protecting the quarterbacks, and since Suh has built a nice little history of playing not-nice with the league’s QBs, the fine isn’t a surprise. Maybe he hasn’t crossed a line yet, but he’s getting ever so much closer.

And his wallet is getting lighter.

I agree. Given Suh's reptitive wreckless behavor and disregard for player safety he should have been fined $30,000 on hits for non rookies and $50,000 for hits on rookies. Most sports writers have deemed Andy Dalton as the "next Tom Brady" so it is in the best interests of the NFL to protect a future star QB...even if he does play for the Bengals. I say add another $10,000 for each successve hit. Pro athletes only get it when you speak to them like a man. And there is nothing more manly than making a lot of money or losing alot of money.

BS. He's just welcoming Dalton to the NFL. Every Lions fan will help chip in $ all year long if Suh does that to every opposing QB. Lions are back and Suh is a big reason. The Roar will be restored this year. GO LIONS!!!

Suh apparently fined $20,000 for Dalton hit

@NickyD94Sixx, Stafford's injuries last season had to do with a blown blocking assignment, not an illegal hit.  Do not try to compare one to the other.  Suh did not take the other QB out...

I agree with Suh, a $20000 fine is absurd.  Get with the program NFL, this is a MAN'S game.  The roughing the quarterback penalty is enough.  If Suh isn't being aggressive, then he isn't doing his job.

Excellent response, he's getting a bad rep after
playing only one year.

Suh is dirty, great player, but dirty.  I am all for hitting the QB but there is no room for the extra and unnecessary punishment he inflicts on them, this is not the WWE.  I am all for this fine, he wouldn't do any of this to his own QB, his coaches would kill him for killing Stafford.  You shouldn't do anything you wouldn't do to your own QB.

I love the physicality of the NFL but what Suh does crosses the line, this is not his first brush with NFL rules.  Just clean it up big boy, you can still crush them on the initial hit, just don't ragdoll them unnecessarily once its delivered.  He is 310lbs and pissed, I get that, but maiming QBs in this league would make for awful football.

The NFL now stands for the National Fairy League - Goodell is turning the league into a joke with his ballet approach and david Stern like petty vindictivism.

I wish someone would get rid of that lock-out loving owner puppet.  And I don't even like the Lions or Bengals.  There was nothing at all wrong with that hit.  Absurd.

however if Suh loosens his grip the QB breaks loose and runs for a first down.  I agree with some of the new rules on hitting but if the QB can fight getting tackled then the defend should be able to take him down by any means necessary up to and including ripping off his helmet and wringing his neck.

This is total BS. Lets just put pink gloves on with powder puffs on the defense and dress all the QB's in skirts and flashing helmets that say caution
They forced all the players to wear pink uniform accessories not for a game, but for an entire month last year, so considering the recent trend in fines for clean hits and rule changes regarding kickoffs, those other predictions may not be far off.

He'll be fine. He needs to tone down the throwing, twisting and whipping motions when tackling QBs and thats about it. No it wasn't a dirty play, but if you have your arms wrapped around a guys head and then twist him to the ground, you are going to get fined.
