For his helmet-popping hit on Bengals QB Andy Dalton in the Lions first preseason game, Lions DT Ndamukong Suh has been fined $20,000. We think.

There’s been no official confirmation by the NFL, but judging by Suh’s Twitter update, it seems to be so.

Quoth the Suh: $20,000REALLY???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #NFL #BIGFAIL"

Though the hit didn’t appear dirty, the league will almost always come down on the side of protecting the quarterbacks, and since Suh has built a nice little history of playing not-nice with the league’s QBs, the fine isn’t a surprise. Maybe he hasn’t crossed a line yet, but he’s getting ever so much closer.

And his wallet is getting lighter.

Used to be a time when Quarterbacks were football players....Theisman, Stabler, Bradshaw, Tarkenton, Staubach....played with a double or sometimes single bar facemask...after a sacke get up and peel half the turf out of their helmet....come back the next play and toss a 40 yard touchdown....that's how you deal with a defense...not fining aggressive play.

Woodson.....Grow up.  We get it....Rodger's sees Suh twice a year and you're scared Rodgers will get knocked silly.  You should be...but that's football.  It always has been, and unless Goodell screws it up, it always will be.  I actually like the packers....you're just a tad annoying.

Good clean hard hit all the way, maybe a penalty iffy though,  but a fine is a complete joke.

Just can't wait to watch Suh do the same thing to that Charmin soft cream puff they have in Chicago, not to mention that Nancy Boy up in Green Bay!

@jlesh112

Suh did put a firm two hand tag on Jay Cutler and they still threw a flag for pushing him out or bounds to hard

Big guy and he will hit you violently.  Yes, but after the play is dead or not involved in the play is a different case.  Never saw Reggie do this stuff.  Charma will have him blow out a knee.

I agree with the qb safety going too far when a D player is going full tilt and hits the guy shortly after.  This Suh guy is just a Richard.  This was him not having any control of his anger and chose to do it.  Unsportsmanlike.  I guess in the run down $hithole called Detroit this is as good as a handshake.

This is stupid. Fine a guy for being aggresive in a violent game? What do they want Suh to do, pick up the QB (Dalton) and just set him down? Suh is a big, very strong guy. When he hits it will be violent. I understand the league wants to keep the QB's safe and there has to be limits , but this was not dirty. 20G? C'mon! Let me ask you. Why do we like football people? It is adrenalin rush and controled violence RIGHT? And we LOVE it! And it is true. Mean Joe did not get that nickname by being nice on the gridiron. Crush em Ndamukong! KING KONG!!!!!!!!!!

There is protecting the QB but NFL has gone too far and now you have some little nit twit deciding what is too hard. Probably the same little cry baby when he was younger crying when his sister pushed him down while he was playing with his dolls.

so resolve it put a little area sensor around the QB if the defense breaks that area sensor confines then the play results in a sack.....

Sorry but if I am the ownerI tell Mr. Suh: " Hey Suh don't stop what you are doing. Suh don't you worry about it I will cover all fines that I deem a Bull$hit call by some pansy a$$ commissoner and his crack pipe staff."

We don't pay for players to lay down, play two hand touchy feely football. Yes protect the players but your going way to far now.

Yep, just as I thought. The money goes to charity. Here is an exerpt from an article on the subject.

"Player fine money is used to support retired player programs, as well as other charitable causes as agreed upon between the NFL and NFL Players Association," said David Krichavsky, the NFL's director of community affairs. "Every letter notifying the player of a fine indicates where the fine money goes. I have gotten feedback from players who don't like writing the check to the NFL, but they are pleased to know it does not go back into our coffers but to charitable organizations."
