Report: Jonathan Baldwin injures wrist in fight

There were concerns early in training camp that Chiefs rookie first-round pick Jonathan Baldwin was struggling to beat press coverage. This is a problem because a lot of NFL teams play press coverage, and even more teams will employ it until Baldwin shows he can get open.

This falls squarely under "silver linings," but it appears that the Kansas City coaches don't have to worry about Baldwin getting off the line of scrimmage, at least for the next few weeks. According to report from Nick Wright of 610 radio in Kansas City, Baldwin could miss the rest of the preseason (and maybe longer) due to a wrist injury suffered during a locker room brawl with veteran running back Thomas Jones.

Not helping Baldwin's transition from college standout to another one of the guys in an NFL locker room (again, via Wright): "What I'm hearing on Baldwin: 'He's as advertised. Diva, spoiled, doesn't wanna listen. Can run a go and a slant, and doesn't wanna work.'"

This revelation makes you wonder what general manager Scott Pioli saw in Baldwin to make him worth a first-round pick. Forget that Baldwin allegedly can't beat press coverage (maybe the defenses he faced in college played off-coverage because of his big-play ability), but how can Pioli not know about the perception that Baldwin is a spoiled diva "who doesn't wanna listen?"

Either way, this is terrible news for a team that was embarrassed at home last week by the Buccaneers, 25-0. And it doesn't get easier: the Chiefs face the Ravens in Baltimore on Friday night.

Baldwin better figure out quick that he's not going to last very long if he's not willing to put in the work. He can be a Diva all he wants... he's got plenty of examples of successful diva WRs in the league, but all of them at least put in the work. Rookie mistake kid. Better grow up fast.

Now is it possible.  Jones was trying to teach him a lesson.  I don't think Jones would start a fight.  It sounds like the Diva, was not listening to a veteran.  To control the locker room the veteran was trying to make a point, the rookie, didnt want to hear or listen to.  Jones does speak up when needed, being a RB that has over 10,000 yards,  He spoke up and told us what Brett Favre was like, and we have seen that to become accurate.  So don't go blaming Jones, for starting a fight.  Jones is not that type of person, maybe put the blame on the Diva.

This is a very bad way for the rookie to start off. Baldwin as well as Bowe will be a nice 1-2 punch along with the newly acquired Breaston as far as the Chiefs' passing attack goes. Also,he got into it with one of the veterans(Jones) on the team. That's not going to sit very well with the Chiefs' organization.Frown

A team captain should know better than to INJURE a first round rookie too, don't you think?

I'm not saying Baldwin didn't deserve it, I'm not saying Jones is to blame for the incident, or anything like that.  But if Jones is a captain, shouldn't he set an example for the rest of the team, including rookies?  I don't see how fighting, and injuring, a first round pick accomplishes that.

He is not helping the team on or off the field with his actions here.  Neither was Baldwin, but he does not have the same responsibility as a veteran captain.

Where are you getting this "problem in a locker room for years" nonsense?  Thomas Jones has a rep as being a team leader.  He was a stabilizing force with the jets and there was a reason that his Chicago teammates were pissed he was jettisoned in favor of Cedric Benson.

Seriously?!  You are aware Jones is a TEAM CAPTAIN, right?!  Let's see, a rookie fights a team captain and you want to take the rookie's side?!  Wow......Next, you annoint Baldwin as the team's #2 WR?!  The guy hasn't played a single down of NFL football and has been absent from a lockout-shortened training camp.  If he truly is KC's #2 WR, then they are in a world of hurt.

This is the stuff that drives me bonkers! First why does anything come to that degree in the work place? I have numerous jobs and I dislike or sometimes flat out hate coworkers but I never risk my lively hood over that childish drama. Esp if I got payed for being in excellent shape, I will not break a wrist to try to prove a point to a guy who has been a locker room problem for years. T. Jones stats were at points great but yet still teams would let him go. Hmmm sounds fishy right? They did this bc he would bring down a team as quick as he brought one up. Now he pushed this kid into doing something that will stick with him till his play makes us all forget it. this really does hurt KC and Cassel due to the fact that they lost their #2 receiver for at least the rest of preseason if not the beginning of regualr season. The drama might cost KC the start they needed to repeat as AFC West champs!
