Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas tore his ACL just before halftime against the Bears during Monday night's preseason game and he will be lost for the season. The injury happened when teammate Jason Pierre-Paul accidentally came down on Thomas' right leg as both players were rushing quarterback Jay Cutler.

Head coach Tom Coughlin called it "the worst possible news," according to ESPN's Suzy Kolber.

"It's devastating," Giants defensive end Justin Tuck said. "Obviously, he was primed to have another great year and ... we don't know who is going to step up, but somebody is going to have to step up to fill that void. And it's a big void."

This comes two weeks after Giants 2011 first-round pick, cornerback Prince Amukamarabroke a bone in his left foot. He isn't expected back until mid-October.

New York selected Thomas out of the University of Southern Cal in the second round of the 2008 draft. He was one of just four players in the league with five or more interceptions in each of the last two seasons.

In addition to Thomas and Amukamara, the team also lost cornerback Bruce Johnson to a torn Achilles on August 4 (he was waived a day later).  Now it appears that Aaron Ross, New York's 2008 first-round pick, will go from nickel back the No. 1 corner on the depth chart.

YOUR PATHETIC. I WOULDNT WISH INJURIES ON ANYONE. EVEN ON MY MOST HATED TEAMS OF THE EAGLES AND COWBOYS. I GUESS THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE TEAM YOU ROOT FOR HAS NEVER WON A SUPERBOWL. EAGLES FANS HAVE TO HOLD THEIR BREATH EVERY GAME WITH VICK. HE GETS INJURED EVERY YEAR HE PLAYS AND MISSES GAMES BUT I STILL WOULDNT WISH THAT FOR HIM. YOUR PATHETIC. GOOD THING THE GIANTS HAVE DRAFTED PLENTY OF DEFENSIVE PLAYERS THE PAST 4 YEARS AND HAVE DEPTH INSTEAD OF GOING OUT AND PAYING HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS TO PLAYERS OTHER TEAMS HAVE TO DEVELOPE

If your entire season was dependent on ONE DEFENSIVE PLAYER, then you didn't have much of a TEAM to start with.   Looking forward to facing the One-Hit Wonders in November.

Great newsLaughing. Hopefully, the injuries will keep piling up for the Giants. Justin Tuck and that loudmouth Brandon Jacobs will be the next players on the Vagiants to suffer season ending injuries.

sounds like a scared lil e gal  fan. dont worry.. your dream team is just what you think they are.. a dream. giants still win the division and make the e gals the laughing stock of the league

Im still devastated by this. I can see it already, on days our pass rush insn't effective, we are getting shredded. Im talking about 45 points allowed. Definitely dont want no part of Green Bay. Saints. Any team with a QB, OL, and WR's for that matter. This may be like the second half of 09 all over again. WHAT THE #*&*!
