Terrelle Pryor's been one of the most talked-about players in the NFL this offseason, thanks to his awkward status with the NFL for the supplemental draft and the inevitable eventual decision by the Raiders to snare him in the third round.

Now it appears he's finally a member of an NFL franchise, as he's in California with the team and set to sign a four-year deal with Oakland.

"We expect him to sign tonight," Raiders exec John Herrera said, via the Associated Press.

Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the contract includes a $586,000 signing bonus and base salaries of $375,000, $485,000, $595,000 and $645,000 in each of the respective years. The 2011 number does not include the amount (more than $100,000) that Pryor will lose because of the five-game suspension he has to serve to start the year.

Pryor will be eligible to begin practicing with the team Friday, pending his signature on Thursday of course, and could conceivably play with the team in its final preseason on September 2 against the Seahawks.

This guy is a freakish athlete with nothing but upside IMO.  He was either ignorant or just  didn't care about the NCAA rules. He hasn't committed any real crimes as far as I've heard.  The Raiders past of signing "problem players" has made this look way worse than it is.

It seems like a very sensible move by the Raiders.  Al Davis must have been asleep in his coffin during the supplemental draft.

I hope he has learned his lesson and works hard to stay in the NFL. He has some skill but needs to work harder and be a professional about everything he does. Look at how they crushed him in the media , now he has a chance to make things better for himself. I know i would take that pay check he is about to get and plus he is on a team that needs some extra help at QB. So he will have time to get on the field and show what he can do.

I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but great move by the Raiders. Pryor probably would have been a low first round draft pick if he didn't screw up at OSU. He has all the ability in the world, but can he get it together at the NFL level? Nobody knows, definitely not any of the a55clowns trashing the Raiders for grabbing him with a nothing pick in the supplemental draft. He made some mistakes, but he is far from a "thug" as one moron put it. Thugs must have become a lot more mild lately if a college football player who sold some gear and got a deal on tattoos is considered a thug. Comments like that make your opinion null and void. Pryor has a decent shot at making it in the show, and he won't have to worry about starting for a bit, with Campbell holding down the spot while the Raiders try to rebuild.

Glad he is out of the picture with the Buckeyes.  He has made a complete mess at Ohio State, and through this he has shown what kind of person he really is.  What message has he shown our youth; go ahead and break all the rules in college, because you can run off to the NFL and get paid.  These college kids who break the rules, need to be held accountable for their actions.

This will work out one of two ways.

#1, the Raiders will have spent base money on a project.

or

#2, Pryor will sit out if he has a couple good games and will demand a new deal

For a team that normally cannot do anything right, I think they might have played this one just fine.  Of course, he is probably taking a pay cut to play in the NFL....
