Gore frustrated, snapping at coaches

While we detail the comings and goings of Chris Johnson -- first he’s in Florida, then he’s in Nashville, then he’s in Florida with no new deal -- a running back who desperately wants a new contract and is nearly as important to his team is actually in 49ers camp. He’s just not very happy. And he’s apparently not very pleasant to be around right now.

One team source told CSN Bay Area that Frank Gore is frustrated and has snapped at some of the team’s assistant coaches as he continues to wait a new contract offer.

Gore is scheduled to make $5 million this season, but after that, he’s a free agent and he wants to get paid. He accumulated four-straight years of 1,000-yard seasons from 2006-09 before missing five games due to a fractured hip last year. Plus, he’s 28 years old, meaning he doesn’t have much time left in his prime as a running back.

Although Gore originally threatened to hold out from training camp -- just like like somebody else we know in Tennessee who actually did it -- he’s been working out and playing in the preseason games.

That’s also a sore point with Gore, because he feels like he’s playing more in the preseason than in years past, and since it’s a contract year, he’s claiming the 49ers are putting him at greater risk for injury. The flip side to that, though, is San Francisco could want to see how his hip is responding to game action.

Gore also has the same problem as Johnson because even if he wants a trade from San Francisco, it’s unlikely to happen, because the cost to another team would be too great. Even if he was traded, his new squad would have to come up with a lucrative new deal. At this point, that’s probably impossible.

Gore's Inconvenient Truth
So, the two sides will continue to meet.*

*Which doesn’t impress’s Pete Prisco. Wrote Prisco on Twitter today: “So Frank Gore will meet with 49ers? Hey, Frank. They ain't paying you. … Gore and Johnson should have a meeting and repeat after me: We are just running backs.”

"The best thing we can say is we're doing everything we can to make Frank a 49er for life and whether that gets accomplished in the near future or not remains to be seen," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said this week.

Well, that doesn’t tell us much, does it? How about it, Frank? What if you don’t get that extension?

“I'd be upset, but I'm still a football player," Gore said. "I want to be here for my whole career. That's up to upstairs, the team. If they want me here, I want to be here. I'm just going to come out every day and practice hard."

And hopefully control his temper with the coaches.

Gore frustrated, snapping at coaches

Gore is already on the downside of his career. Hopefully Harbaugh has the support of ownership and the 49ers don't extend him. Declining carries every year, breaking down and looks like a quarter step slower. He was a stud and a consistent force for some forgettable 49er teams. He unfortunately is going to miss the turn around in San Fran.

I love how people say "if I had 5 million dollars I would set myself up for life".  Somehow I don't think so.  When you get your tax return check what do you do with it?  Invest it wisely?  I doubt it, more then likely you are paying off Credit Cards you spent too much on during the year, or paying off the Christmas presents you overspent on, or you are buying new furniture you don't need, or myabe you use a portion of it to take a nice vacation, or to help out a family member.  Of course that discounts the fact that you would actually need to have some sort of skill that would give you the right to earn 5 million dollars, and let's ignore the fact that it only sounds like alot until you subtract taxes and realize that if you live to be 60 the money has to last 30 years.  The sad realty is most people regardless of salary don't live within their means, and the ones who do usually have no choice in the matter.

Personally I don't begrudge Gore or Johnson anything.  They have spent the best years of their career playing for dog teams, run by dog organizations, why should they waste one of the few good years they have left for two teams that can't combine their win totals for the year and make the playoffs.  The only difference between the two is Gore was smart enough to show up and get credit for this year so he will be a free agent next year no matter what happens while Johnson has to go through three more seasons to be a free agent.  Sadly Terrell Owens had the right idea, show up, be a pain in the butt, do some situps in your driveway untill you are such a nuissance the team just lets you go.

Time to cut bait

Gore is DONE. Injuries have taken their toll, and he's being paid fairly for what is expected of his production. GEEEEZUS MAN!?! How much bling does it take to set yourself up for life??  If I were paid $5 mill in one 12 month period, I could and would parlay that into a LIFETIME of easy living for the rest of my life AND MY FAMILY"S.  If Gore is willing to pay me a fair fee, I will set hime up for life based on this year's salary alone.

He is at least trying to do the right thing, the team needs to meet him in the middle and make him an offer to keep him in the bay area for the rest of his career.
Nothing obligates, or should obligate, the 49rs to make any particular offer to Gore.  Maybe they just want to pay him the $5million this year and then worry about it in free agency.  Maybe they do not want him at all if they have to guarantee a lot of years and a lot of money on a 28 year old RB coming off a broken hip.  Maybe they have already they made the offer they think is fair to "keep him in the bay area for the rest of his career"?  Just saying, I appreciate Gore not holding out and honoring his deal, that is admirable, but it does not obligate San Fran to give Gore whatever he wants in terms of a new contract, it only obligates them to pay the contracted salary.

Who is Pete Prisco again?  Hey're a fat out of shape moron.  Shut your mouth.  Nobody, not even your mother, care what you have to say.  You're the reason they created condoms.
Thank you for the valuable, logical and insightful input on the article.  I am sure we are all much smarter for having read your little rant.  Seriously, did Prisco run over your dog or something?  Why don't you try forming an intelligent quote about the article itself because I don't see anything particularly egregious in the article--pretty straight forward article about Gore's contract dispute.  On that note, can a RB fresh off a a fractured hip really be that surprised that his current team is not that eager to drive a dump truck of money up to his door before seeing him play a little?

you cant just show up to camp but you also have to conduct yourself as a professional and not keep complaining out loud..   the more he does this and is becoming a nuissance to the team the more likely he will get jack squat

keep you mouth shut and just go to work doing your job and something will come about ..   there are other ways to get paid also outside of football .. he can be doing commercials or other things..  keep his image bright like peyton manning etc
