Michael Vick: take your place alongside Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Not so much for the consistency you've provided or for the championships you've won. But for the amount of money you make.

The National Football Post's Andrew Brandt is reporting that Vick and the Eagles have agreed to a six-year, $100 million contract, and ESPN's Adam Schefter writes that the deal includes about $40 million of guaranteed money.

Vick's Second Life
His deal, if you look at it from an average salary per year aspect, is less than Manning (five years, $90 million, $54.5 million guaranteed), but it’s comparable to Brady (five years, $78.5 million, $48.5 million guaranteed).* At the very least, it’s in that same stratosphere.

*To contrast, Kevin Kolb, who was ejected from Philadelphia by Vick, went to the Cardinals and got a $63 million deal with a $20 million guarantee.

Which is amazing considering where Vick was at this time two years ago: in prison for dog fighting and with a future that was extremely uncertain.

Now, as’s Mike Freeman writes, Vick is that much closer to redemption. But it’s also a somewhat-curious decision by the Eagles, aside from the report that the new deal lowered Vick’s cap number by about $2 million (Vick had been playing under the franchise tag).

Obviously, Vick’s talent level and athleticism are second to none, but you have to wonder about two aspects of his game: 1) Is he brittle? Last year, he showed that, yes, he is injury-prone when he decides to tuck the ball and run. Vick has a tough time playing the way a quarterback should play when he’s scrambling (namely, sliding feet-first and getting the hell out of danger at the first sign of it). That's a concern. 2) Vick's detractors point to his trouble in reading NFL defenses. Which is not what you want to see if you're paying $100 million to your quarterback.

I guess the big question is whether Vick was worth this kind of money. At this point, it’s impossible to know, but if I had to guess, I’d lean toward "probably not." Remember, the Falcons gave Vick a $100 million deal in an earlier life. It didn’t work out so well for them. Vick's a different person now, but he's older too. One year of playing football in his post-prison life might not be enough to know whether Vick deserves this much money.

Let he who is without sin...

Micheal Vick paid his debt to society.  If it was Peyton Manning who had done what Vick did, he would just be a "good ol' boy who got into a little trouble" and the same people who are still squeezing Vick's past between their well-developed sphincters would have forgiven him.
The legal system has let go of Vick.  Maybe those who have nothing better to do than hate should do the same.

I'm happy for Vick.  He has learned that what he did was wrong, thus transcending the environment of his youth.  He is making enough money that the rich bleep who used Vick's crime as an excuse to steal his signing bonus back from him won't affect him anymore.  I hope Vick continues to sing his "redemption song" for the rest of a long, happy life.
As for all of you haters, why is it always a Tiger Woods or a Michael Vick who is your target?  Comments like yours are proof that we haven't really come as far as an evolved society as we think we have.

I know being from philly you lose 50% of your I.Q. however, your talking about 25 years ago, not today. The Cowboys player got his head stepped on by Hainsworth not vice-versa. here is a quote for you to follow for all your life.

How about?? People keep focus on themselves. I dont consider myself a member of the morality police. I watch these overpaid athletes for entertainment and my love for sports. We all know whats right and wrong wrong. Yada yada yada.. If Peyton Manning turns out to be a cross dresser who enjoys peeing on his girlfriend?? Good for him!!! It effects me 0!!! Just keep confusing Defenses and bombs away to Wayne. I promise you there is nobody in NFL winning a pulitzer prize anytime soon. I care about them entertaining me on a Sunday. This is the only thing i require from NFL athletes. They are not my family nor friends. NOW ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!! If your overly concerned about how NFL players conduct themselves off the Field?? Idea??? STOP WATCHING!!! CHANGE THE CHANNEL!!! STOP WHINING!!!!

A waste of good money. A really good waste of human flesh. And a really, really good role model for our kids. Yeah right.  Wonderful. I hope Vick fails miserably and breaks HIS neck! The guy hasnt played 16 games in his life has he? I predict 5 games before he gets hurt running the ball. Because he isn't an accurate QB. Philly is retarded to give this shmuck that kind of money. Oh well. what do you do. Karma is a bitch and that little ???will get his!

It's like you are "looking for" these comments.  Ever heard of predestination?  Also if you looking for something wrong you will find it, seems to me YOU'RE the one who's racist.  Judging these comments with a skewed eye rather than a unbiased one.  Seems like you Jim Crow ever bad comment and give them the blanket definition of racism.  When in fact you don't even know their race!  You my friend are the racist.

So many people are boo-hooing about the poor pit bulls, ok, fine, Vick shouldn't have done it. But what about the Pitts that are mauling little kids and old ladies? Why isn't there an outcry for HUMAN Victims? Pitt Bull ownership should be restricted and regulated, like owning a gun. And if your Pit mauls someone, the owner should go to jail for 100 years! That would stop dog-fighting because felons wouldn't be able to own a pitt.

People are stupid...He is the youngest out of those three..and if you want to talk about brittle, last time I checked he doesn't have a half broken neck, unlike someone who just signed a HUGE contract deal as well.

Oh you mean the guy with the longest running active streak of not missing games???

That guy?

Just get to the part where you really like Vick and drafted him on your fantasy team.
