Vick

Michael Vick: take your place alongside Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Not so much for the consistency you've provided or for the championships you've won. But for the amount of money you make.

The National Football Post's Andrew Brandt is reporting that Vick and the Eagles have agreed to a six-year, $100 million contract, and ESPN's Adam Schefter writes that the deal includes about $40 million of guaranteed money.

Vick's Second Life
His deal, if you look at it from an average salary per year aspect, is less than Manning (five years, $90 million, $54.5 million guaranteed), but it’s comparable to Brady (five years, $78.5 million, $48.5 million guaranteed).* At the very least, it’s in that same stratosphere.

*To contrast, Kevin Kolb, who was ejected from Philadelphia by Vick, went to the Cardinals and got a $63 million deal with a $20 million guarantee.

Which is amazing considering where Vick was at this time two years ago: in prison for dog fighting and with a future that was extremely uncertain.

Now, as CBSSports.com’s Mike Freeman writes, Vick is that much closer to redemption. But it’s also a somewhat-curious decision by the Eagles, aside from the report that the new deal lowered Vick’s cap number by about $2 million (Vick had been playing under the franchise tag).

Obviously, Vick’s talent level and athleticism are second to none, but you have to wonder about two aspects of his game: 1) Is he brittle? Last year, he showed that, yes, he is injury-prone when he decides to tuck the ball and run. Vick has a tough time playing the way a quarterback should play when he’s scrambling (namely, sliding feet-first and getting the hell out of danger at the first sign of it). That's a concern. 2) Vick's detractors point to his trouble in reading NFL defenses. Which is not what you want to see if you're paying $100 million to your quarterback.

I guess the big question is whether Vick was worth this kind of money. At this point, it’s impossible to know, but if I had to guess, I’d lean toward "probably not." Remember, the Falcons gave Vick a $100 million deal in an earlier life. It didn’t work out so well for them. Vick's a different person now, but he's older too. One year of playing football in his post-prison life might not be enough to know whether Vick deserves this much money.

Report: Vick signs 6-year, $100 million deal

LMAO! @ eaglesassassin You have got to be the funniest dumbest muth!@#$ I have ever heard. I cant get over you saying "vick chained up female dogs and let the male dogs rape and abuse them" LMAO! and you call me comical how can a dog rape a dog. I bet you dont have a woman do you. I'm sorry Im ASSuming again you just might be a woman and you more then likely have a dog that you probably let sleep with you(you know dogs have ticks and fleas and whites are more prone to catch lime disease from dogs)  and let lick you all in your face (you know dogs lick their A$$ right and eat anything) Pit-bulls maul disfigure and kill kids and the elderly all the time I dont know if your small brain allows you to comprehend all of that so I'll say it again PIT-BULLS MAUL DISFIGURE AND KILL KIDS AND THE ELDERLY ALL THE TIME. But you seem to want to defend them so relentlessly when its homeless children out here and old people having to chose whether there going to eat or pay for there medicine its young kids in Chicago being murdered everyday so you should put all your efforts into defending and fighting for those issues instead of talking about a mans indiscretion with dogs on a blog that talks about Mike Vick signing a 6 YEAR 100 MILLION DOLLAR DEAL for what he does on the FOOTBALL FIELD THAT'S WHATS THIS ARTICLE IS ABOUT RIGHT DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? So my point is this talk about what that man is doing or not doing on the FOOTBALL FIELD and stop with all your moaning and groaning and blood-clot crying about things that have nothing to do with THIS ARTICLE the man is a millionaire AGAIN and you're not and probably will never be so if thats why your mad get over it dude and move on.

NO!!!!  YOU'RE DUMBER THAN YOU SOUND IF YOU THINK HE IS DOING ANY OF THIS OTHER THAN TO GET BACK TO HIS $100 MILLION CONTRACT WAYS.  IF THIS ARTICLE WAS ABOUT BIG BEN THEN WE'D BE TEARING HIM APART TO, IF IT WERE ABOUT PEYTON THEN WE'D BE TEARING HIM APART TOO.  I HAVE A JOB SO I DON'T HAVE TIME TO SIT HERE AND LIST EVERY SINGLE DAMN THING WRONG WITH EVERY SINGLE PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE LIKE YOU DO APPARENTLY!  What a freaking imbecile, for real man, you are absolutely one of the most ignorant people I have encountered on this planet.  Your subpar level of thinking is astounding, almost comical.

The same way he could'nt read the giants defense huh and they have one of the best defenses in the NFL that game alone made me belive he had evolved into a complete QB now they have some offensive line issues and hes not gonna last throughout the entire season if they dont get him some protection but overall hes a completely different QB then he was in Atlanta

VICK IS NOT A SMART NFL QB - HE CANNOT ASSESS DEFENSES LIKE A BRADY OR MANNING CAN.  GOOD DEFENSES FIND A WAY TO CONTAIN AND FRUSTRATE VICK.  PHILLY IS ONE TEAM I CAN CROSS OFF THE LIST OF EVER WINNING A CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE NEXT SIX YEARS.

Wow Daddyrich!  Way to ASSume all of that stuff about me!  I'm an ANIMAL advocate, not a dog, cat or other pet advocate, ALL ANIMALS!  I don't kill ANYTHING, period, not even a bug! So how about you get off your high and mighty perch and deal with the people who are the real problem.  You're absolutely right about one thing though, what they do to livestock is absolutely attrocious, but for you to use that to shield Mike Vick is just about as terrible as what they do to those poor animals!  Vick would chain up female dogs and let the male dogs RAPE them and abuse them, he would electricute dogs, kill them, all sorts of deplorable and demented things, but that's ok b/c he's black and he's a great athlete to you isn't it?  You're a fool if you think that Mike Vick's life is so much more important than anything else in this world, a damn fool!  Why b/c you're black and he's black it's ok what he did?  Give me a FREAKING BREAK dude!  Mike Vick could give two craps about you or your damn opinion, the same as mine.  As far as I'm concerned you can rot with him where you both belong since you think it's ok to desecrate another life for the sake of "culture".  You're a joke.

Report: Vick signs 6-year, $100 million deal

do not believe the 6 year 100 million dollar #, it is a lie a fbarication, it will never happen, the deal is actually 5 years 80 million, why, becuase as Mike Florio points out, that there is lanaguage in the contarct that if vick takes 35 % of the snaps, in years 1,2,3,4 or 5, the 6th year becomes null and void, he's a starter he will take 35 % of teh snaps easily, the 6th year is a fantasy, but these people just want to report he's the first qb with 2 100 million dollar contarcts, when the truth is he only got a 80 million dollar deal, but there so into overhyping a story, they don;t want to tell you the truth

Exactly.  It's really 5 years for 80 million with 35.5 million guaranteed.  The good thing for Vick is 32.5 million is guaranteed and payable in the first 2 seasons.  20 million the first season and 12.5 the second.  There are still other bonuses available though that could make it more then 80 million dollars.  Like if the Eagles win a Superbowl this year or next he gets an extra 3 million dollars.  And he also gets a bonus for getting 77.5 percent of the regular season snaps.

Either way, he's a very rich man again.  In my opinion he deserves it.  Pitbulls aside he's an exciting player to watch.  I know some people that won't let what he did to those dogs go, but as long as you're willing to forgive athletes for a million other things they do I don't see how keeping a grudge against Vick makes sense.

@ eagle assassin, Once again Really! watch FOOD INC. and then you'll see what animal torture really is what these companys do the animals to get you to eat it. People like you are the hipocrites that I speak of its ok to breed cattle and and pigs and chickens and inject them with all kinds mutation hormones expose them to all types of bacteria and disease do obviously painful experiments on them slaughter them and sell them to people like you to eat do you think that is humane or let me go as far as to say the sport of hunting which consist of killing defenseless animals for sport not to survive but for sport and thats a culture so should they outlaw that as well. So ur right GROW UP AMERICA and stop living in a world of double standards and hipocracy and start putting more value on people and human lives then you do on animals

Report: Vick signs 6-year, $100 million deal

Any good defense will stifle him and make him run into the forest and into the wolves.

Sorry you were in a coma last year and missed the entire 2010 season but good to see you're ok now, welcome back.  Let me fill you in on what you missed last year.

Vick versus Green Bay ( 5th ranked defence in NFL) - 102 passer rating and 100 yards rushing.
Vick versus Giants  (7th ranked D in NFL)  -  83 passer rating and 34 yards rushing.  Game 2 versus Giants. 98 rating 130 yards rushing.
Vick versus Chicago(9th ranked D in NFL) -  94 passer rating and 44 yards rushing.

Those were the top 10 d's I could find stats on, he crushed teams that weren't good defensively. Only had 2 games last year where his passer rating was under 90, passed for over 3 thousand yards and he ran for almost 700 yards in 12 games as well.   The guy had a 100 passer rating for God sakes..... he's an amazing talent, one of a kind.  How many qb's with his speed have succeeded in the NFL the last 10 or 20 years?
