Vick

Michael Vick: take your place alongside Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Not so much for the consistency you've provided or for the championships you've won. But for the amount of money you make.

The National Football Post's Andrew Brandt is reporting that Vick and the Eagles have agreed to a six-year, $100 million contract, and ESPN's Adam Schefter writes that the deal includes about $40 million of guaranteed money.

Vick's Second Life
His deal, if you look at it from an average salary per year aspect, is less than Manning (five years, $90 million, $54.5 million guaranteed), but it’s comparable to Brady (five years, $78.5 million, $48.5 million guaranteed).* At the very least, it’s in that same stratosphere.

*To contrast, Kevin Kolb, who was ejected from Philadelphia by Vick, went to the Cardinals and got a $63 million deal with a $20 million guarantee.

Which is amazing considering where Vick was at this time two years ago: in prison for dog fighting and with a future that was extremely uncertain.

Now, as CBSSports.com’s Mike Freeman writes, Vick is that much closer to redemption. But it’s also a somewhat-curious decision by the Eagles, aside from the report that the new deal lowered Vick’s cap number by about $2 million (Vick had been playing under the franchise tag).

Obviously, Vick’s talent level and athleticism are second to none, but you have to wonder about two aspects of his game: 1) Is he brittle? Last year, he showed that, yes, he is injury-prone when he decides to tuck the ball and run. Vick has a tough time playing the way a quarterback should play when he’s scrambling (namely, sliding feet-first and getting the hell out of danger at the first sign of it). That's a concern. 2) Vick's detractors point to his trouble in reading NFL defenses. Which is not what you want to see if you're paying $100 million to your quarterback.

I guess the big question is whether Vick was worth this kind of money. At this point, it’s impossible to know, but if I had to guess, I’d lean toward "probably not." Remember, the Falcons gave Vick a $100 million deal in an earlier life. It didn’t work out so well for them. Vick's a different person now, but he's older too. One year of playing football in his post-prison life might not be enough to know whether Vick deserves this much money.

Report: Vick signs 6-year, $100 million deal

OakRaider hit it on the head!  If that's the culture he grew up in then it needs to be erradicated, that demented way of thinking has got to go!  He tortured those animals, the things he did I can't even type here or I'll probably get banned.  If that's his "culture" then as far as I'm concerned that culture can go back to the dark ages where it belongs.  Enough of the excuses, own up for what you did and show some remorse and maybe then we can start talking about redemption...

Seriously please get off the race card thing, it's so out of control!  It's b/c what he did was deplorable to anyone with any moral standards whatsoever.  Do you even know what he fully did to those animals?  Obviously not b/c you defend him like what he did was nothing, oh let me guess you're one of the "oh it was his culture that led him to do that".  Give me a freaking break, enough with the excuses!!!!! GROW THE F UP AMERICA!  This guy is a total waste of humanity and b/c he can do amazing things on the football field you put him up on a pedastal.  Give me a freaking BREAK, and I"M AN EAGLES FAN!  D-Mac was the man, class act all the way, no excuses, but he never got the respect he deserved, why don't you focus on THAT instead of this pile of waste...

Report: Vick signs 6-year, $100 million deal

Well lets be clear, Vick is really only making 48 mil guarantee the other 52 mil is incentives - thats about were Sam Bradford and those young quarterbacks a couple of years got in the draft - and they never saw a down in the NFL.  Another note, Vick was rated 20 out of the top 100 players by the players.  Lastly, Vick was the first quarterback drafted in my fanatasy league - and I'm pretty sure if we were to do a poll of the number 1 quarterbacks to go in fantasy draft round one...Vick would probably be gone in everyon's league in round one.  So before everyone gets their pannies in a bunch - lets be honest - he's worth it.  He may have some fine tuning to do but last year I watched every Eagle game because of Vick...and the Eagles aren't even my team.  When Vick is on the field anything can happen - almost like Jordan when he was on the court...he made you hold your breath.  Not too many players in the league make you hold your breath.  But Vick does.

Stop Hatin!!!  Let's play football!!!

Report: Vick signs 6-year, $100 million deal

@ oakraider, Really who gives a damm, he fought some dogs SO WHAT its people in the NFL raping women and getting away with murder literraly and all these people (white people in particular) seem to want to hate and nit pick on that man for a mistake he paid for. Is it because hes a black QB who was making 100 million dollars and wasnt living up to a certain image that the media creates for athletes or was it because hes a black man with too much money and should be grateful for what he was givin and mistakes are untolarable thats what it sounds like to me. Same thing happend to Tiger Woods he cheated on his wife which should be something that him and his wife dealt with privatly but because he's tiger woods he had to make a public apology and was vilifyed and crucified loss his endorsements loss his wife loss his game and was the most hated man on earth WHY? Because he didnt live up to image that hipocritical america CREATED for him or was it that hes a black man with way too much money and had the audacity to marry, have kids with and cheat on this beautiful WHITE WOMAN how dare he, he deserves whatever he gets thats what it sounds like to me. Brett Farve cheats on his wife and sends nude photos to some girl while he was playing for the Jets no one really gave a damm, Arod cheats on his wife with madonna and admits he did steroids no one really gave a damm, Dirk Nowitski beat his girlfriend up no one really gave a damm, Ben Rolisburger is raping women not once but twice and no body really gave a damm. So the point is this the man(M.Vick) paid for his mistake literraly(through his pocket and his freedom, and the sport he loves) and was given another chance which he is doing a great job with on and off the field and was rewarded for the job he did so STOP HATING

Report: Vick signs 6-year, $100 million deal

Vick is a very talented player that teams need to specifically prepare for during the season.  Is he worth 100 Million. Nope!  All those dog loving defense linemen are going to line up to kick his ass.  He's hasn't proven anything and hasn't won anything.  Maybe somebody will pop him hard like last year and he can watch from the sidelines or a hospital bed.  It's atrocious that he's the third highest paid quarterback in the NFL. Atrocious! Ridiculous!  The Falcons gave him 100 Million and look at how that worked out for them.  I think they closed the Home Depot near my house because of that contractCry.  He's older now and more injury prone.  Any good defense will stifle him and make him run into the forest and into the wolves.  Again, all those dog loving defensive linemen will make him earn his Puppy Chow!  Who let the dogs out?

Go cry about Matthew Stafford's contract. Fact of the matter is, this ex-con, felon, or whatever you want to call him posses "a particular set of skills, skills that make him a nightmare for teams like yours". Any player can be injured. Every player is one snap away from being on the IR. There's always a risk in business. if you're a fan of football, you want to watch this guy (Vick the person aside, of course). The Eagles are a smart franchise. They don't just hand out money.

Report: Vick signs 6-year, $100 million deal

Has anyone read the GQ article?  First of all, he had direct contact with his dogfighting buddy in the party before he got shot, which is a violation of his probation.  He lied to the police and the idiot Goodell by saying he wasn't at the party.  He also shows no remorse for the dogfighting saying "white people don't understand the black culture where he grew up."  And for this he is rewarded with a huge contract.  BULLSHIT if you ask me.  HE was a thug and still is a thug.

The Eagles have done it again.I only wish I could listen to WIP610(i think) on Monday mornings after Vick screws up or even better, gets injured enough to put him out of the NFL for good!100M for a convicted felon who is a loust QB.
Most of the country may have forgiven the DK, but this dog lovin' Marine will never let that image go!
Enjoy your season Eagle fans.At least you have a very good D.
