Browns talking extension with Peyton Hillis?

If one thing's become abundantly clear since the Browns fleeced the Broncos for Peyton Hillis (they gave Brady Quinn in return and got some draft picks as well!), it's that Hillis goes with Cleveland like potatoes and perogies.

So it kind of makes sense -- knowing that general manager Tom Heckert wants to lock in "players we like and want to be here" and knowning that they've shored up the left side of the offensive line for the future -- to hear that the Browns and Hillis are talking about a contract extension.

That's according to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, who reports that the "wheels have begun turning" in order to get Hillis more money than the four-year minimum of $455,000 he'll make in 2011.

Hillis has seen his Q-rating skyrocket over the last year, thanks to his explosive 2010 season when he rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns. That performance led to widespread love from fantasy football players and, eventually, a spot on the Madden 2012 cover.

The latter came about because of a grassroots campaign that was, as Hillis told me during the unveiling, absolutely overwhelming in terms of public support.

And now his success appears to be paying dividends, though the Browns and Hillis certainly aren't making a big, public fuss about getting the running back more money.

Which seems appropriate on all fronts.

Browns talking extension with Peyton Hillis?

A recent poll of Broncos fans asked to rate the dumbest of the many dumb trades Josh McDaniels made while pretending to coach the Broncos for less than 2 seasons and the #1 folly was voted the trade of Peyton Hillis and a draft pick to Cleveland for Brady Quinn before last season.  Quinn looks better this year, but Hillis was a fan favorite in Denver and it was no surprise to Broncos fans that Peyton did so well last year.  Most Broncos fans do not like the Browns but many still have a soft spot for Hillis and wish him a lot of success in the NFL.  We still hate McDaniels for what he did to our team!

Browns talking extension with Peyton Hillis?

I have never heard of Hillis before he made the cover of Madden 12. Is he a RB or a FB? No matter. The madden jinx lives on. Hillis will either get injured and miss most of the season or he will play very poorly this season.

Browns talking extension with Peyton Hillis?

Peyton Hillis formally of the Denver Broncos and now a member of the Cleveland Browns. Hillis is a very special player he has soft hands when it comes to catching a pass out of the backfield. His yards after the catch is amazing for the simple fact he punishes his tacklers you have got to love that. Josh McDanials got fleeced by the Browns I for one wished he was still a Bronco BUT!! He gives you 100% every time he touches the ball it shows even in his blocking skills the Browns have that powerful 1300 yard back that never gives up.

Browns talking extension with Peyton Hillis?

I took him with the 29th pick in a fantasy draft where I'd also taken Michael Turner earlier.  They scare me in that both were worn out at the end of last season.  I got Peyton Manning in the 4th round of that draft, so hopefully that will make up for any late-season dropoff in RB scoring.

Hillis = Class Act

Far too often we hear about guys who have one good season then DEMAND to be paid more money. Peyton Hillis has waited his turn (dont see how they let him just sit there in Denver) got his shot and took full advantage. THESE are the guys who should get more money. Great guy, deserved the cover of the sickest madden ever made, deserves to be in a higher tax bracket. Now he just has to come on back an prove he's not a one hit wonder.
