Daniel Thomas continues to need work

D. Thomas has many improvements he needs to make to his game (US Presswire).Posted by Josh Katzowitz

One issue we really haven’t discussed when we’ve written about the Dolphins trading for and giving a two-year deal to Reggie Bush or when we’ve talked about Tiki Barber trying out for Miami or the addition of retread Larry Johnson is how the team feels about second-round pick Daniel Thomas.

Well, when the most exciting thing you’ve done since you were drafted was to have your name attached to a porn event, that pretty much says it all. In other words, Thomas hasn’t done much in training camp.

As told by the Miami Herald, Thomas is having a tough time transitioning to the pro game, as evidenced by the grocery list of improvements Thomas needs to make. That includes being more physical, running with more explosion, being less tentative, keeping his legs churning, getting his pad level lower and keeping his shoulders squared.

"I would say that's about right," Thomas told the paper. "I've just got to lower my pads and trust my blocks and everything like that and I'm trying to get better here at practice and carry it into the next game."

And when Chad Henne and coach Tony Sparano are imploring you -- or, you know, yelling at you -- to hit the hole harder, it’s probably a good idea to listen.

That’s one big reason Thomas played tonight in the Dolphins preseason finale vs. the Cowboys, writes the Palm Beach Post. What Sparano wanted to see the most: improvement by Thomas -- who carried the ball eight times for 36 yards -- on his pass-blocking.

“In the beginning it was overwhelming a little bit,” Sparano said, via the Post. “But (running backs coach Jeff Nixon) has brought him along and he stepped in there pretty good three or four times today.

“This is something new to him, (but) he’s doing it and having success doing it and he knows that’s really going to be what, at the end of this thing, gets him on the field too,” Sparano said. “You know you’ve got to be able to protect the quarterback and I think he’s done a really good job doing that.”

Relax Fish fans - this will take some time and nothing happens unless your man Henne is competent...no playoffs this year - focus on next year. The Pats are cracking and the Jet implosion will occur the minute Sanchez is exposed as average....and Capt Lou Albano's(Fatty Ryan) antics will get old fast in the very large unforgiving big apple...

This story does nothing for me but stress the fact even stronger that Ireland and Sporano need to get FIRED!!..They seem to have NO clue when it comes to evaluating talent...Lets not forget that they passed on Mark Ingram !!!  Why??? Who knows, except for the fact that they thought they were smarter than everyone else and now it is blowing up in their faces. Now we are giving Tiki a tryout, bringing back Larry Johnson I mean come on man ...really??!!
I said it before and will say it again...Sporano and Ireland need to go....go hire Cowher, or somebody...!!  They would have to be better than what we have now.
wow, if you actually knew anything going on with the team it would be that the biggest concern we have is our offensive line. they are not getting the run protection needed on the right side, which makes it hard for backs to get anything at all. if you want to call for Sporanos head thats fine, but at least do it for the right reasons

it was a great move to get pouncey with the 1st rd pick, taking ingram would have done nothing for us since our line would have been that much worse, and ingram has the saem learning curve as thomas has to deal with. in all honesty, we should have just kept either ronnie or ricky and had one of them bush and thomas at back

Dolphins fans want to hire everybody, then fire everybody.

What the hell has Mark Ingram done? Had some decent preseason games on a team that HAS A LEGIT PASSING GAME. It's a lot easier to run when teams actually respect you in the air. You can't just plug any player on to any team and expect the same results. You sound like another illogical 790 the Ticket caller.

@Worldbme:  Good luck with that Larry Johnson pick, my prediction? He doesn't even finish the season with Miami. They paid Bush to be as much of a feature back as possible. They drafted Thomas for a reason and want to see him progress. LJ is nothing more than insurance. He's been cut by 2 teams in the last year, you REALLY think he's going to be productive?   Good luck with your fantasy team though.

I think Larry Johnson will get 1/2 the carries for Miami. Bush is still a 3rd down back. But I see Johnson get the goal line carries for sure. I hope. I picked the guy with my last pick #204 overall on my fantasy team. Just don't think Thomas is the real deal or an every down back.
