NFL teams reduced their rosters to 53 players Saturday night, but that's just the beginning of the roster-assembly process. Some newly unemployed big-name free agents weren't out of work long, and teams in need of depth meant that other mid-level players found homes quickly, too. And then there are the practice squads.

Luckily, we got you covered here at the Eye on Football blog where, to quote Banky Edwards, we're like CNN and the Weather Channel: providing constant updates.

"steelers=sb" although I agree with you on your continued rant, it is beginning to be more than a rant and way too redundant. You failed to mention...during your redundant rant, that Phoenix' new DC was with you guys last year, and yes, he would have known this pickup. Not that it's a great pickup, just sayin', he did know him and what he can be used for. So, I would say by that he must have some value.

I'm all for bringing in former players, Tomlin's done it with Will Allen and Mewelde Moore, but the number of former Steelers who have been there are staggering and it's to the point where these guys weren't even here when Whis was.

He was a Steelers coach 5 years ago. Crezdon Butler was drafted in 2010. But hey, he can keep signing the likes of Clark Hagans, Joey Porter, and Alan Faneca from his days in Pittsburgh and he can keep hurting his team in doing so.

I'm surprised the 49ers didn't sign anyone of substance. Scott Tolzien? Really? Wow! They needed to sign another WR after seeing what Crabtree has not done in the preseason and the fact that another USC player gets cut by the team. Chilo Rachal (contrary to what any tools or idiots might have told you Chilo's last name is NOT spelled "Rachael")...you are next!!!

I agree but most are not on the roster cause those steeler players suck.  Only a few left.  Most coaches bring along former players when they change teams.

Arizona picking up former steelers scraps was beyond pathetic along time ago. Now it is just so predictable.
