Agent says Tiki Barber 'has moved forward'

On Monday, Sports Illustrated's Peter King wrote that Tiki Barber and his agent, Mark Lepselter, were "flabbergasted" that none of the 32 NFL teams had use for the 36-year-old former running back who last played in 2006. King added, "I hear he’s devastated that no team gave him a chance."

The response -- from both fans and media -- was the same: no organization, no matter how desperate, needed a guy closer to 40 than 30, four years removed from his last meaningful snap, and worse: not considered much of a teammate. (On the upside: it was the first time in internet history that writers and commenters were in agreement on, well, anything. Tiki Barber: bringing the world together.)

Paul Schwartz of the New York Post spoke with Lepselter, whose story differs from King's retelling of it.

“That is not correct,’’ he told the Post Sunday. “I never said he was devastated. That term never came out of my mouth.’’

Does that mean the word "flabbergasted" did? Because it conveys the same message -- that somehow, two people on this planet couldn't conceive of a scenario in which Tiki wasn't welcomed with open arms back into the league four years after leaving it to pursue a television career. Plus, as PFT.com's Michael David Smith points out, "King never attributed the word 'devastated' to Lepselter — that was King’s word, based on how he has heard Barber is feeling. (Barber is free to clear it up and tell everyone how he’s feeling, but he isn’t talking to anyone right now.)"

And it appears Barber won't be talking anytime soon, either.

“This is the last time I am speaking on this subject in any way, shape or form." Lepselter continued. “You can’t worry about the things in life you can’t control and Tiki has moved forward accordingly."

So there you have it. Barber and Lepselter are moving on. For how long depends on if an NFL team needs running back depth at some point in the coming weeks and months. The Dolphins were the only team to give Barber a workout and that was in August.

CBSSports.com's Michael Freeman heard from general manager whose team needs running backs that Barber wasn't in his plans because, simply, "I don't trust him. That's pretty much it."

We'll say it again: there's always the UFL.

Agent says Tiki Barber 'has moved forward'

It flabbergasts me that writers work so hard to create conflict that they make disingenous statements such as "flabbergasted" and "devastated" send the same message. By the way, while I am flabbergasted, I am not even slightly devastated.

Tiki, here's a hint. If no teams in the Arena Legue wants you, that means 4sho no NFL teams needs you. It's time to wake up and smell the coffee if you haven't done it yet.

Is he available in Fantasy leagues?  Doesn't that seem appropriate?

Age and a bad reputation were his downfall.  Not being a good teammate and selfish attitude along with a chip the size of rhode island didn't help the 36year old.  That's why is pays to be nice sometimes kids.  Let's see if the network take him back haha.

Interesting how being a ego maniac, back stabber gets you black balled, while  frying dogs who dont fight well gets you the number one selling jersey in the league.
Are you completely insane? He hasn't been blackballed. He is just too old. I'm sure you've heard the argument that running backs only have a few years in them (if they're any good), because of wear and tear on their bodies. He had his time, but it is NOT now.

Im not backing up Barber
Then why say such a rediculous statement? Blackballed? No, He's just done. Any team that would give any consideration to this guy (full career, retired 5 years), needs to look at some front office moves. Most people thought his "coming back" was a lame and crazy idea, because it was.

Did he honestly think an NFL team would take a 36 year old running back that hasn't played in 5 years.  Running backs are a dime a dozen and right now there are several on the waiver wire that are much better than Tiki.

Finally  a player learns you cant burn every bridge and expect to be accepted back.  Now had he been younger, hed be on someones roster no matter what he said.  Interesting how being a ego maniac, back stabber gets you black balled, while  frying dogs who dont fight well gets you the number one selling jersey in the league.  Im not backing up Barber, nor am I saying Vick shouldnt be allowed to play, but its interesting that no one wanted to even look at Tiki, even though id bet hes in great shape and could probably make some ones roster.  Karma is a bitch, Tiki found that out, he also found out if your going to be unliked, be unliked when your 30 not 36.

I thought all along this was a ploy to buy him another 5 years, before he gets voted no on the hall of fame.

He needs to get over himself. It's pretty obvious that he would not have succeeded in the nfl this go round. The crop of running backs coming into the league lately make him look like the afterthought he is.

No one else is surprised that Tiki cannot find work, and no one is feeling sorry for Tiki in any way.  He was a bad teammate and he took himself way to seriously.  He was a fraud that got exposed.
