The Manning streak is dead. Long live the Manning streak. Well, Eli Manning's streak anyway. Because Peyton Manning's streak is officially over, as Bill Polian informed the public that the Colts have ruled their franchise quarterback out for Sunday's game against the Texans, ending his consecutive games started streak at 227.

"To say I am disappointed in not being able to play is an understatement," Manning said in a statement released by the team. "The best part about football is being out there on the field with my teammates.  It will be tough not to be out there playing for the organization and our fans.  I simply am not healthy enough to play, and I am doing everything I can to get my health back.

"The team will do fine without me, and I know for sure that I will miss them much more than they will miss me.”

Peyton has been the talk of the NFL for more than a week now, as rumors of additional neck surgery swirled.

The chatter peaked when the Colts listed Manning as "doubtful" to play against the Texans on Sunday and now it's official that Manning's consecutive-start streak will end.

It seems improbable that Manning would miss the game because he hasn't missed a start since early in his college career, but it's also indicative of just how serious this injury is -- if Peyton isn't taking snaps from Jeff Saturday come Week 1, you best believe that he's dealing with a highly problematic injury.

Kerry Collins, who the Colts added in the offseason, will start for Indianapolis.

Wow, Steelwood, what an A-hole you must be.  Be honest, you're a Philly Fan right?  No one else could be that cold, seriously, you root for Vick not the rapist, right?  Lets all hope your sister is the next "girl" Big Ben meets out at the local bar for a drink.

What's Peyton's post season record again? Hmmm? That's what I thought. And from what he looks, fat and out of shape, he's on track to be the hick his daddy brought him up to be.

Peyton Manning officially ruled out for Sunday

Manning should consider retirement for the simple fact that he is a terrrible playoff QB. A choker. A regular season stat padder. Good riddance to the most overrated QB of all time. But a really good fantasy QB. Again, good riddance.

Yes, I too am a diehard Pats fan, but I don't wish ill on anyone, including Peyton Manning.  Hopefully we can see the match up between the era's best two quarterbacks again, but from the information that isn't being told, this injury is very similar to the one that ended Sterling Sharpes career.  Maybe a few years of technology and medical advance will be enough to get him well enough to play again, but is it really worth risking the rest of your life for your career?

Mike,

I'm sure the Colts know the extent of his medical contition.  If they were not worried about giving him the contract then you should not be worried either.  I would rather see Manning sit out the 1st month then come back to soon and risk perminate injury.  Acutally, I would like to see him sit out till Dec 5th (day after they play the Pats - jk).  Payton has a family, he owes it to them to do what is best for them, not the team.  Everyone thought it was so great when Bruschi came back after his stroke, I thought it was foolish, he had a wife & three kids that he should have been thinking of.  If was selfish of him.
