Rick Reilly eats popcorn off of Sun Life carpet

Rick Reilly of ESPN wrote a column about Peyton Manning's injury recently in which he said that if Manning didn't start Week 1, he'd show up at readers' houses and grub out on their carpet, using the various crumbs there as nutrients.

Or something. Whatever, the point is that Manning didn't start Week 1 and everyone wanted to see Reilly own up to his claim.

"If you think he's going to miss a start because of a neck problem, you've been chugging paint thinner," Reilly wrote on August 30. "This guy hasn't missed a start since 1994 at Tennessee. Do you know how long ago it was when Manning didn't start for the Colts? Google was two days old. Kim Kardashian was 17. Russell Crowe was skinny!

"If Manning doesn't start Game 1, I will come to your house and eat things that are stuck in your carpet."

Well, the columnist wasn't exactly going to travel the country for a mock "Homecoming" tour where he ate pieces of food off of readers' rugs (although I'd watch the hell out of that -- kind of like a homeless man's "No Reservations").

But he was at Sun Life Stadium for Monday night's Miami-New England tilt and, kudos to Reilly, because he actually ate popcorn off the floor of the press box. The grub surely wasn't just leftover litter (I have to think he put it there), but he still ate food off the press box floor.

So while I'd almost never link to a Rick Reilly video at the WWL, this one's worth your time.

If the owner of the Colts didn't was to screw everyone into still buying tickets, they would have had Manning listed as out a long time before the season started.  They didn't say anything about Manning because they knew without him the Colts will be a losing team, and people would probably pass on season tickets.  Everyone assumed Manning would be playing because they hid the fact that he wasn't going to be so well.

Guess what?  The Pirates did lose and Rooker did not keep his promise, although, to his credit, he did walk from Philly to Picksburgh for charity after the season.
So then he did keep his promise. He had to do it at the end of the season because he would not have had time to do it in time to do his job. Duh.

Nice face! Reilly looks like he's trying to cut the cheese rather than eat popcorn off the rug!

Well?  Where are the rug and carpet muncher jokes?  I wish these guys would stop making these ridiculous dares because they never own up to them.  I remember Jim Rooker when the Pirates played in Philly back in '89.  The Bucs scored 10 runs in the top of the first and Rooker said he would walk home if the Pirates were to lose.  Guess what?  The Pirates did lose and Rooker did not keep his promise, although, to his credit, he did walk from Philly to Picksburgh for charity after the season.
