The man most lost in the shuffle in the Texans running back room will no longer have to worry about trying to beat out Arian Foster, Ben Tate and Derrick Ward for playing time.

SlatonThat’s because, as the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain reports, Steve Slaton has been waived.

On the season, Slaton had seven carries for 20 yards, and despite injuries to Foster and Ward, the Texans didn’t feel it was necessary to play their fourth-string running back. Although Slaton had a tremendous rookie year in 2008 (268 carries for 1,282 yards and nine touchdowns), he’s fought injury problems and neck surgery.

Then, with the emergence of Foster last season, the need for Slaton to take the majority of the carries was extinguished. According to McClain, Chris Ogbonnaya was signed off the practice squad to take Slaton’s place and Foster should be ready to start this Sunday.

SS had C-5 cervical fusion to correct a nerve injury (2009)...sound familiar.... that caused him to lose feeling in his fingers. He has not been the sane since.  The pundits are always yapping about how NFL careers are fragile.  His is a good example.

There's lots of teams that could use a running back like Steve Slaton. The reason he had problems being in the lineup, including the injuries was he fumbled the ball too much. This is what lead to the Texans using Arian Foster in the first place. The Bengals, Cowboys and I'm sure lots of others could use him. Hope he latches on with another team.

With Cedric Benson about to be suspended for 3 games I think the Bengals could use Slaton as a bacup Or the Browns sur could use this guy to backup Hillis that would make a Ton of sense, But anyway I agree Sklaton can still play and who ever get this gy will be getting a Steal!
