Texans waive Steve Slaton

The man most lost in the shuffle in the Texans running back room will no longer have to worry about trying to beat out Arian Foster, Ben Tate and Derrick Ward for playing time.

SlatonThat’s because, as the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain reports, Steve Slaton has been waived.

On the season, Slaton had seven carries for 20 yards, and despite injuries to Foster and Ward, the Texans didn’t feel it was necessary to play their fourth-string running back. Although Slaton had a tremendous rookie year in 2008 (268 carries for 1,282 yards and nine touchdowns), he’s fought injury problems and neck surgery.

Then, with the emergence of Foster last season, the need for Slaton to take the majority of the carries was extinguished. According to McClain, Chris Ogbonnaya was signed off the practice squad to take Slaton’s place and Foster should be ready to start this Sunday.

I do not think if he was still hurt they would have risked it and played him at all. They could have just let him sit. The Texans could not risk having him around to cloud the teams backfield. He was the obvious guy out since Foster is near 100% again. I think we will just have to wait and see how this unfolds. Anyways the guy has got a ton of upside.

To all you folks sayin send Slaton to my team, well Slaton is dammaged goods, the neck injury he has/had is not healed even yet. If the Texans put him on IR then thay have to come to an injury settlement, by keeping him for the 3 games this year his cap numbers come down for next year and they kept him on the active roster so they would not have to pay an injury settlement.  The way he has been handled is about dollars and cents or he would have been gone last year.

I got a fealing there is alot more to this story than we know about.  You don't just let a guy with this much talent go, unless there is some other baggage involved.   I hope I'm wrong and he hooks up somewere else.  It just has a weird "smell" to it.  And so the stomach turns! lol

Slaton is gonna prove that he is worthy..Keeep your eyes open as he is gonna be the player we once thought he would be.
He was great in college and proved himself as an NFL ready player. The best is yet to come.

Slaton has been injury prone, and didn't play at all in the preseason, while Ogbonnaya looked good.  This was an overdue move that should have been made right from the start of the season.  A nice compliment to either Tate or Foster in the backfield, could help the red zone woes.

I totally agree. Reggie Bush is the poor man's version of Steve Slaton.

I was thinking the same thing that KC would probably pick him up.

Hopefully he's on his way to Miami.  I would take him over Reggie Bush any day.
