Hank Williams Jr. releases another statement

After some rather unfortunate remarks about Barack Obama, John Boehner and Hitler, ESPN yanked Hank Williams Jr.’s iconic Monday Night Football intro on Monday, and for now, we don’t know what kind of future Williams’ music has on MNF.

And after releasing a somewhat-stubborn statement Monday evening that said he was just trying to make a point, he’s released another less-stubborn statement saying, well, maybe he shouldn’t have said it in the first place.

From Williams’ web site: “I have always been very passionate about Politics and Sports and this time it got the Best or Worst of me. The thought of the Leaders of both Parties Jukin and High Fiven on a Golf course, while so many Families are Struggling to get by simply made me Boil over and make a Dumb statement and I am very Sorry if it Offended anyone. I would like to Thank all my supporters. This was Not written by some Publicist.”

This was a little more conciliatory than his previous statement when he intimated that he couldn’t understand why people who have differing views could ever play golf together. Then, he compared Obama and Boehner playing golf together to Hitler and Benjamin Netanyahu hitting the links together.

ESPN had no comment on whether Williams' song would be used on future telecasts.

In case you haven’t seen it, here’s where all the controversy started.

I  disagree Candy...hitler is not the worst... all these worthless waste of skin.. who abuse animals are worse than Hitler,Heatler had a reason " right OR wrong, hurting - abusing animals there is no excuse, and I wish upon vick the worse that life has to offer, and then you have obama praising vick, to me obama is no better than vick!

This has to be the worst comment I ever read.  You're basically saying a dog's life is more valuable than a Jew's.

I thought Boehner was Hitler and Obama Netanyahu.  No matter, Hank Williams, Sr. was the talent in the family.  Junior is a wannabe and a hayseed who doesn't know free speech from an enema.  Oh wait, HWJ's free speech efforts garner the same results as an enema.

QBlue Devil - excellent point, he didn't call anyone Hitler.  But he called the President and Vice President of the USA "the enemy."  That's a little hard to take.

Blue Devil...glad you said it, I heard Hitler used in an analogy there, and then effin Gretchen started talking about comparing Obama to Hitler. Fox News didn't like the criticisms of GOP members like Boehner playing golf with Obama from the start, and they did their thing from there. Fox didn't have to twist Hank Jrs statements too much, but the journalists they've hired are masterminds at turning interviewees who disagree with them into the enemy. The camera angle on him is slightly angled more upward on him, moving down to expose his belly. They're absolutely the most manipulative TV journalists, a team of very twisted geniuses under the power of Murdoch, the greatest mass manipulator in mass media.

Anyway, Hank did a hell of a lot to help them and here is now. He has all the freedom of speech in the world, and ESPN has all the freedom to fire him. It was just stupid to call the President the enemy, even if you really believed that, you wouldn't be dumb enough to say that on national TV, would you?

Get a grip folks.  Try reading the comments and actually applying some logic to it.  He didn't call Obama Hitler, he didn't call Boehner Hitler, he didn't call anyone Hitler.  He did however make the unfortunate choice of using Hitler and Netanyahu to illustrate an example of polar opposites.  His point was to illustrate the disparity in idealogy between the parties involved, not to equate anyone to the persons named.  Was Hitler a poor choice?  Sure, simply because the mention of his name is going to have an instant polarizing effect.  Maybe he should have said Ghandi and Hugh Hefner but I'm sure someone would have gotten their undies in a twist over that one too.
