After some rather unfortunate remarks about Barack Obama, John Boehner and Hitler, ESPN yanked Hank Williams Jr.’s iconic Monday Night Football intro on Monday, and for now, we don’t know what kind of future Williams’ music has on MNF.

And after releasing a somewhat-stubborn statement Monday evening that said he was just trying to make a point, he’s released another less-stubborn statement saying, well, maybe he shouldn’t have said it in the first place.

From Williams’ web site: “I have always been very passionate about Politics and Sports and this time it got the Best or Worst of me. The thought of the Leaders of both Parties Jukin and High Fiven on a Golf course, while so many Families are Struggling to get by simply made me Boil over and make a Dumb statement and I am very Sorry if it Offended anyone. I would like to Thank all my supporters. This was Not written by some Publicist.”

This was a little more conciliatory than his previous statement when he intimated that he couldn’t understand why people who have differing views could ever play golf together. Then, he compared Obama and Boehner playing golf together to Hitler and Benjamin Netanyahu hitting the links together.

ESPN had no comment on whether Williams' song would be used on future telecasts.

In case you haven’t seen it, here’s where all the controversy started.

Measure your words carefully, say what you mean, mean what you say, & to hell with them if they don't like it.

Lizard_King.... I'm glad Hank spoke his mind... he can afford to exercise his freedom of speach. Maybe he can go to Fox and sell the "Are you ready for some baseball" version of his song next.   Maybe the NFL would like to find another Howard Cosel .... imagine how he would have been chastized for some of his comments in this ultra sensitive day and age.... What next?  charge the family for the bullets after we shoot everyone who's thoughts or comments offend those in charge of the country!  Kind of sounds like Russia now doesn't it?

Hank Williams Jr. releases another statement

Old Hank was still drunk from the night before and should never had been on camera. We all know he's a bigot and a clown, but the sports world would be better without this fool being remotely involved with any topic. Go back into the Alabama woods Hank and don't resurface til the next election is over.

"clowns to the left of me; jokers to the right"......can we just keep politics out of pro-sports?  and ESPN--you truly are the worst thing that ever happened to professional sports.

I understand your statement, purely. However, ignorance is on your side at this point. I stood on the front lines & put my mouth where my money was/is. I am very happy to know that I (and the rest of the millions of military) have given you the right to free speech. Difference is, I fought for mine when it counted. Dont ever call someone ignorant when you spew what you have from your own fingures. Semper fidelis

Street Hustler, I believe you are confusing "taking away" free speech with consequences from exercising that free speech. While you might be free to call your boss an a**hole, your boss also has the right to fire you for it. What is happening here is ESPN is exercising its right to terminate a very stupid employee. Not like we haven't seen this a time and time again in the broadcast business. This is clearly a professional where public image means something. Hank really should check himself in and get a little help......

how is "Hank and the rest of the haters" ruining this country? by complaining that he is doing a bad job? and remember that noone said g. bush did a great job so don't play that card since that is all you have to fall back on. please explain how he is doing such a great job and is good for our country? was it his Cash for Clunkers plan? or his Bail Out plan? maybe his Stimulus Package? how about OBAMA-CARE? I know it was when he shut down all the drilling in the gulf of mexico and gas went up $2 and then he allowed China and Brazil the rights to start drilling but not America, was that it?

Sounds like Hank is still pissed about losing the Civil War. It's only been 150 years, get over it!
